9일 SK바이오사이언스 제조한 노바백스 코로나19 백신이 안동에서 첫 출하된 가운데국민의힘 김형동 의원(경북 안동·예천)이 “안동 백신 클러스터 구축에 촉매제가 될 것”이라며 환영의 뜻을 전했다.

김형동 의원은“이번 백신 출하를 통해 안동이 글로벌 백신 생산의 허브로 자리매김하고 변이 바이러스에 대해 대응하는데 기여 할 것”이라며“밤낮으로 노력해 주신 기업 관계자 분들과 적극적으로 지원해주신 경북도, 안동시 담당자 여러분의 노고에 감사드린다.”고 말했다.
SK바이오사이언스가 위탁 생산한 노바백스 백신은 코로나19 백신 중 합성 항원 방식으로 개발된 최초의 백신으로 지난 8일 식품의약안전처의 출하승인이 마무리되어 9일 본격적인 국내 공급을 시작했다.
SK바이오사이언스 안동공장은 국내 최초 코로나19 백신인 아스트라제네카에 이어 노바백스 백신 출하로 백신 플랫폼의 생산역량 확대에 따른 관련 일자리 창출과 지역경제 활성화에 큰 역할을 할 것으로 전망된다.
이에 김형동 의원은“안동에 대한민국 첨단 바이오 신약개발과 세계적인 백신산업 클러스터로 구축하는 데 큰 도움이 될 것.”이라고 기대를 전하면서 “경북 헴프산업단지 및 동물세포실증지원센터의 기능 활성화와 인재 양성을 위한 국립안동대학교에 바이오·백신 관력 학과 설치를 적극적으로 추진하겠다”고 밝혔다.
