카메라가 귀하던 시절인 1960년대부터 지금껏 사진을 찍어온 박옥수 원로작가의 사진전을 5월 4일부터 9일까지 서울 종로구 인사동 인사 아트프라자 갤러리 2층에서 사진전을 개최한다.
주제는 “시간여행”. 1960년대 후반부터 10여 년간 촬영한 사진 중 엄선한 흑백사진 40점과 탈 18점 총 58점의 작품을 전시한다.
갤러리측은 “1960년대부터 1980년대까지의 한국 역사를 생생하게 담은 사진으로 작품으로서의 가치뿐만 아니라 근현대사의 기록이라는 면에서도 중요한 가치를 가진다”고 강조하고 ”흑백사진은 그 시기의 시대상과 사회상을 담고 있는데, 거기에는 우리가 애써 지우거나 잊으려 했던 전통이라는 이름의 잔재가 있고 누군가는 희망 속에서, 또 누군가는 절망 속에서 살아간 삶의 흔적이 작가에 의해 새롭게 태어난다. 작가가 전국의 각지를 발품을 팔며 담아낸 다양한 사진 속의 풍경과 인물들의 표정이 보는 이로 하여금 그 시대를 떠오르게 한다“고 알렸다.

갤러리측은 “함께 전시되는 탈 작품은 1985년부터 그 당시 매우 고령이었던 인간문화재들의 탈춤을 몇 년에 걸쳐 사진에 담은 것으로 1991년도에 전시했던 것을 리마스터링 하여 2022년에 새로이 전시된다. 암실작업을 통해 작가의 생각에 따라 명암을 분리하고 농도별로 선과 색깔을 넣고 빼면서 재탄생된 탈 사진은 작가 자신만의 작품으로 승화시킨 결과물로 평가받을 것”이라고 덧붙였다.
사진작가 박옥수 약력
1960년대 고교시절부터 학생 사진작가로 이름을 날렸다. 작가는 대학 [한양대] 재학 중에 한국
사진계의 원로인 이경모의 추천으로 이형록 선생이 이끄는 현대사진연구회와 문선호 사진연구
소 근무 등을 통해 사진 작가로서의 기틀을 다졌다. 그 후 현대자동차 홍보실(1976~1979년 근무)을 거쳐 1983년부터 2017년 까지 충무로에서 토탈 스튜디오를 운영했다. 한국사진작가협회 자문위원, 대한민국사진대전 초대작가, 심사위원장 역임. 박옥수 작가의 사진집으로는 "시간여행" [눈빛], "뚝섬" [개마서원]이 있다.
