[브레이크뉴스=정철규기자] 진주시는 25일 한국산업기술시험원 우주부품시험센터에서 초소형위성 ‘JINJUSat-1’의 인증모델(QM) 공개행사를 가졌다.
이날 공개된 인증모델은 발사모델(FM)의 예비모델로서 발사모델이 발사에 성공하는 경우, 홍보 또는 후속사업의 연구개발에 사용될 예정이다.
이번 초소형위성 개발사업은 국내 기초지방자치단체로서는 진주시가 최초로 시행하는 사업으로 지난 2019년부터 15억원의 예산을 투입해 진행한다.
진주시는 한국산업기술시험원, 경상국립대학교 등 3개 기관이 인증모델과 발사모델 개발, 경상국립대 석·박사 과정의 우주분야 전문인력 양성을 목표로 추진하고 있다.

오는 2023년 상반기에 발사 예정인 JINJUSat-1은 위성에 장착된 3대의 카메라로 지구 사진촬영 임무를 수행하게 되며 3개월 정도 운용될 예정이다.
조규일 진주시장은 “진주시가 기초지자체로서 타 지자체보다 앞서 우주산업을 선도하는 모범사례로 평가받을 수 있다”며“이번 초소형위성 개발사업으로 시가 항공우주도시로 발돋움할 수 있는 계기가 될 것이다”고 말했다.
한편 진주시는 2U급 초소형위성 개발사업의 결과물을 활용해 6U급 크기의 초소형위성 개발을 후속 사업으로 계획하고 오는 2023년부터 사업에 착수할 예정이다.
