브레이크뉴스 문홍철 기자= 현대자동차는 29일 보도자료를 통해 제주 CFI에너지미래관(제주시 구좌읍 소재)에서 열린 ‘제주 그린수소 글로벌 허브 구축 계획 발표 및 제주 그린수소 생산 실증사업 착수’ 행사에 참여했다고 밝혔다.
산업통상자원부, 제주특별자치도, 한국남부발전 등과 함께 제주도 내 그린수소 생태계 구축을 위해 협력하기로 했다.
이번 행사는 지난해 11월 발표된 정부의 수소경제 이행 기본 계획을 바탕으로 추진되는 제주 그린수소 생태계 구축의 일환으로 열렸다. 오영훈 제주특별자치도 도지사, 박일준 산업통상자원부 2차관, 유원하 현대차 국내사업본부장 부사장, 이승우 한국남부발전 사장 등이 참석했다.
그린수소(Green Hydrogen)는 물의 전기분해를 통해 얻어지는 수소다. 화석연료로부터 생산되는 ‘그레이수소(Grey Hydrogen)’, 그레이수소와 유사하게 생산되지만 생산 과정에 이산화탄소 포집 및 저장 기술이 활용되는 ‘블루수소(Blue Hydrogen)’와 달리 생산 과정에서 이산화탄소 배출이 전혀 없는 ‘궁극적인 친환경 수소’로 불린다.
제주도 제주시 구좌읍에는 2022~2026년 간 시행되는 그린수소 생산 실증사업을 통해 수전해 수소 생산 실증 기술이 다수 적용되는 대규모 그린수소 생산시설이 구축된다. 이와 연계돼 제주도 내 수소 모빌리티 도입이 단계적으로 추진된다.
향후 제주도 내에는 2025년까지 △수소 청소차 50대 △수소 버스 100대 △수소 승용차 200대가 보급될 예정이다. 이후 2030년까지는 △수소 청소차 150대(누적 200대) △수소 버스 200대(누적 300대) △수소 승용차 1000대(누적 1,200대)가 추가 보급된다.
현대차는 2023년부터 수소 시내버스 제주도 내 보급을 시작할 예정이며, 수소 승용차인 넥쏘 고객들의 충전 수요에 대응하기 위해 이동형 수소충전소(승용차량 충전 전용)도 도입할 계획이다.
현대차 관계자는 “대한민국 탄소중립 메카인 제주도에서 그린수소 모빌리티 시대가 열리기를 기대한다”며 “그린수소 생산 및 공급, 수요 등 그린수소 생태계 구축을 넘어 제주도가 그린수소 글로벌 허브로 거듭날 수 있도록 적극 지원하겠다”고 말했다.
