(브레이크뉴스인천 문광수 기자) 인천시가 2일 11월의 해양유물로 선정된 ‘인천항 선거(船渠) 준공기념 동판’을 소개했다.
인천시에 따르면, 11월의 해양유물로 선정된 동판은 1974년 5월 10일 인천항 선거의 준공을 기념해 건설부에서 제작했으며 선거에 선박이 입항하는 모습으로 디자인했다.
인천항 선거는 1966년 4월 26일 착공해 8년 만에 준공됐다. 이 기념패에는 당시 동양에서 가장 큰 규모의 갑문을 갖춘 인천항 선거의 준공이 갖는 우리나라 해운 역사의 큰 성과가 담겨 있다.
기증자는 인천항 선거 인근 월미도 갑문매립지에 건립 중인 국립인천해양박물관 전시에 활용해 달라며 소장하고 있던 자료를 기증했다.
인천항은 선거가 준공되면서 내항 전체를 도크화해 5만 톤급의 대형선박을 포함해 25척의 선박을 동시에 접안할 수 있게 됐고, 하역능력도 연간 142만 톤에서 627만 톤으로 크게 확대됐다.
이로써 인천항은 조석간만의 차이가 심한 자연환경을 극복하고 1980년대 수출 100억불 달성의 전초기지로 활약할 수 있었다.
인천시와 해양수산부는 2024년 개관 예정인 국립인천해양박물관에 전시될 해양유물 확보를 위해 인천시민과 전 국민을 대상으로 유물기증 홍보를 추진하고 있다.
어시장 상인․경매사, 어민, 선원, 항만 노동자 등 바다를 터전으로 살아온 이들의 삶을 전시에 담을 예정이다.
