세종시가 신품종 딸기 개발에 나섰다.
16일 세종시에 따르면 세종시농업기술센터(소장 최인자)는 이날 농업회사법인 우리종묘㈜에서 신품종 딸기재배에 관심있는 농가들과 실증 시험재배 중간평가회를 개최했다.
세종시 딸기는 전국 재배현황과 비슷하게 딸기연구소에서 개발한 ‘설향’ 품종이 주를 이루고 있다.
하지만 점차 소비자 입맛이 다양해지고 있으며, 특히 젊은 층에서 기존과 다른 이색 농산물을 찾는 경향이 짙어지고 있다.
농업기술센터는 세종시 딸기 브랜드화를 위해 관내 육종회사인 ‘농업회사법인 우리종묘㈜’와 협력 중으로, 설향 품종을 개발한 김태일 박사(전 논산딸기시험장장)가 참여해 신품종 개발에 노력하고 있다.
이 가운데 신품종으로서 등록 가능성이 있는 후보군을 추려 현재 농업기술센터 내 실증하우스와 세종시 농가에서 품종별 실증재배 중이다.
시는 이번 중간평가회에 앞서 ▲딸기 외형 ▲색택 ▲수량성 ▲맛·향 ▲병해충 등을 평가하는 신품종 딸기재배 포장 순회평가를 진행했다.
이번 중간평가회를 통해 세종시 딸기 품종 다양화와 브랜드화 기틀마련에 나설 계획이다.
중장기적으로는 도시민 시식 평가 추진, 신품종딸기 실증시험 확대 재배 등을 추진할 예정이다.
최인자 세종시농업기술센터 소장은 “세종시 민간연구소와 농업기술센터, 농업인들과 협력체계를 구축해 지속적인 실증시험과 평가 과정을 거쳐 소비자 취향에 걸맞은 신품종 딸기 개발을 지속하겠다”라며 “소비자는 물론 딸기 재배농가 또한 만족시킬 수 있는 세종시 대표 딸기개발로 농가소득 향상을 꾀하겠다”라고 말했다.
