고양시청소년재단 마두청소년수련관은 겨울방학을 맞이하여 “디지털 새싹 SW(Software).AI(Artificial Intelligence) 방학 캠프”를 진행했다.
교육부와 17개 시·도교육청 및 한국과학창의재단에서 주최한 「디지털 새싹SW.AI 교육 캠프 공모사업」에서 선정된 ‘한세대학교 SW.AI 교육 프로그램’을 적용하여 운영하였으며, 과정별 4차 진행 모두 전액 무료로 제공됐다.

캠프는 초등 청소년을 대상으로 <아두이노 코딩 · AI · 메이커 과정>을, 중등 청소년을 대상으로는 <스마트홈과 · IoT 과정>을 체험하는 기회가 됐다.
특히 ▲우노빅보드 인공지능 키트, ▲스마트홈 조립 등 이론과 만들기를 같이 진행하여 어렵고 난해하게 느껴질 수도 있는 SW.AI를 쉽게 배울 기회가 됐다.
캠프에 참가한 청소년은 “몰랐던 부분에 대해 자세히 배우고 직접 만져봐서 신기했고 AI라는 말만 들으면 무작정 어렵다고만 생각했는데 이번 기회에 배워 AI가 더 쉽게 느껴졌고 친근하게 다가왔다. 이런 수업이 더 있었으면 좋겠다.”라고 소감을 밝혔으며 “이 활동을 하면서 창의적이고 지식이 확장됐다. 이번 경험이 미래에 크게 도움이 될 것 같다. 무엇보다 재미있었다.”, “컴퓨터를 통해 코딩하는 법을 배워서 좋았고, 대시보드를 사용해 LED 제어 응용 앱을 만드는 게 재미있었다.”라는 등 참가 청소년 대부분이 만족도가 높았으며 또 참여하고 싶은 의사를 밝혔다.

마두청소년수련관 고형복 관장은 “디지털 새싹 SW.AI 방학 캠프가 코딩과 컴퓨터 활용을 어려워하는 청소년에게 소프트웨어, 인공지능에 대한 호기심을 상승시켰을 뿐만 아니라 재미를 제공하여 디지털 분야에 대한 진입장벽을 낮추고 도전 욕구를 향상시켰다”면서, 앞으로도 다양한 신규 프로그램 개설로 청소년 디지털 역량 증진의 기회를 더 폭넓게 제공할 예정이라고 밝혔다.[고양=박정호 기자]
