국가철도공단이 경원선 동두천∼연천 철도건설사업에 대한 사전점검을 마치고 오늘부터 다음달 22일까지 시설물검증시험에 들어갔다고 10일 밝혔다.
철도공단에 따르면 시설물검증시험은 신규 또는 개량 철도노선 개통 전 시험열차를 투입해 단계별로 속도를 증속시키며 철도시설물의 안전상태, 철도차량의 운행 적합성, 차량과 시설물의 인터페이스 등을 종합적으로 검증하는 과정이다.
앞서 공단은 시설물검증시험에서 지난 3월 노반 분야 등 13개 분야 228개 항목에 대한 사전점검을 통해 철도시설물의 시공 상태를 점검하고 시험열차 운행 안전성을 확보한 바 있다.
시설물검증시험이 마무리되면 오는 7월 말부터 실제 영업 상태를 가정한 영업시운전에 돌입하며 열차운행체계 및 철도종사자의 업무숙달 등을 점검 후 2023년 말 개통할 예정이다.
한편, 동두천∼연천 철도건설사업은 사업비 4,853억 원을 투입해 경원선 수도권 전철을 연천까지 연장하는 사업이다.
사업이 마무리되면 연천에서 동두천으로 이동시간이 13분 단축돼이용객들의 교통편의가 크게 향상될 것으로 기대된다.
국가철도공단 김한영 이사장은 “동두천～연천 노선이 개통되면 수도권 경기북부 접경지역 개발촉진 및 광역교통편의 제공으로 지역경제에 크게 기여하게 될 것”이라며 “철저한 시설물검증을 통해 국민들이 철도를 안전하고 편리하게 이용할 수 있도록 하겠다”고 말했다.
