이재운 소설가는 '태이자우리말사전' 편찬자. 이재운 소설가는 5월19일 페이스북에 올린 글에서 “1994년 8월30일은 내가 사전편찬자가 된 날이다. 2024년이면 30주년”이라고 밝혔다. 이어 “1990년에 시작한 바이오코드 연구는 2020년이 30주년인데, 끝을 보지 못하다가 올해 2월에 마침표를 찍었다”고 강조했다.
이재운 소설가는 “소설은, 중앙대 문예창작학과를 다니던 1980년, 광주항쟁으로 휴교령이 내려지면서 소설을 배우기만 하던 내가 첫 장편소설을 써서 1982년에 출간했으니, 소설가가 된 지는 대략 40년이 지났다. 이 중에 소설가, 바이오코드 개발자란 직업은 내가 좋아 한 것이니 자랑할 일은 못되고, 다만 사전편찬만은 <완전히 남을 위한 것>이다. 난 우리나라가, 우리민족이 말도 제대로 못한다는 현실을 1994년까지는 까마득히 몰랐다. 사전 만드는 일이 이제 힘에 부친다. 소설 쓸 일도 더 있고, 바이오코드는 거의 수행 삼아 늘 하니, 이래저래 힘이 달린다. 뜻을 같이하는 벗들을 모아 함께 가야겠다”고 피력했다.
