세종시, 북아일랜드 수도 벨파스트시와 우호도시 협약 체결

세종시가 영국 북아일랜드 수도 벨파스트시와 우호도시 협약을 체결했다고 밝혔다.

7일 오후 4시(현지시간) 체결한 협약은 올해 라이언 머피(Ryan Murphy) 벨파스트 시장으로부터 우호도시 협력 초청을 받아 마련됐다.

양 도시의 지난 2년간 추진해온 한·영 혁신 트윈스 프로젝트(Republic of Korea-UK Innovation Twins Project)의 성과라는 게 세종시의 설명이다.

한·영 혁신 트윈스 프로젝트는 세종시를 비롯한 영국 기업에너지산업전략부(BEIS), 지역혁신공단(CPC), 영국혁신기금기관(IUK), 북아일랜드무역투자청(INI), 주한영국대사관이 참여해 왔다.

이번 협약에는 양 도시의 공통 관심사인 지능형도시 ,사이버보안 ,공동연구 및 학술교류 ,중소기업 해외진출 지원 ,국내 및 국제행사 참여·협력 ,포괄적 혁신 및 시민참여 분야다.

협약식에 참석한 이승원 경제부시장은 “벨파스트는 북아일랜드의 수도이자 유럽에서 가장 젊은 도시 중 하나”라며 “사이버보안, 디지털, 금융 등을 중심으로 빠르게 성장하고 있는 세종시와 유사하며 이를 통해 다양한 교류가 기대된다”라고 말했다.

한편 세종시는 네덜란드 로테르담, 불가리아 소피아, 미국 워싱턴 디시(D.C). ,보스턴 등 세계 주요 도시와의 실질적인 협력은 물론, 8개국 9개 도시와 우호협력을 맺고 국제도시로서의 위상을 갖춰 나가고 있다고 밝혔다.
