한국-인도 비즈니스센터측은 8월21일자 보도자료에서 “경남 양산시가 네팔, 인도, 통도사 등 민간 문화교류를 시작으로 국제문화도시로 성장하기 위해 발돋움하고 있다. 제나 정(Zena Chung) 한국-인도 비즈니스센터 회장(IKBC:Indo-Korea Business Center)과 헤이키 란타(Heikki Ranta) 주한 핀란드 상공회의소 회장이 한국-인도 국제문화교류 협력을 위해 지난 8월18일 양산시를 했다. 이들은 양산시와 인도 유럽 등 국제문화교류의 장을 넓히기 위해 통도사, 미타암, 기업체 방문을 시작으로 물꼬를 트고 있다. 이들은 영축총림 통도사를 방문해 부처님의 진신사리가 모셔진 금강계단을 참배하고 현덕 주지스님과 친견했다. 일행은 환영 인사와 덕담을 나누며 인도와 통도사간 다양한 분야 민간 교류 확대와 우호 증진과 국제교류협력에 대한 많은 부분 공감대를 형성했다”고 전했다.

동행한 김성훈 부산 외대 특임교수는 “통도사(通度寺)는 부처님이 `법화경`을 설파한 인도의 영축산에서 지명이 유래했으며 인도(印度)의 도(度)와 음이 같아 통도사는 인도와 통한다는 뜻으로 역사적으로 인연이 깊다며 이번 만남을 계기로 민간 교류를 확대시켜 순례와 템플스테이, 명상 등 다양한 프로그램 연계를 통해 국제교류 협력이 확대되어 양산시의 경제발전을 견인하고 국제적인 도시로 나아갈 수 있도록 가교역할을 하겠다”고 덧붙였다.
