최민호 세종시장은 24일 세종의사당 설치를 위한 국회규칙이 운영위원회 소위원회를 통과에 따른 자축 기자회견을 갖고 이같이 밝혔다
먼저 최 시장은"어제 우리는 세종시의 새로운 역사를 썼다"며 "국회 세종의사당이 들어서게 된다는 것은 헌법재판소 해석에 의하면 수도로서의 지위에 한걸음 다가선 것"이라고 평가했다.
이어 법안을 발의한 정진석 의원과 강준현·홍성국 의원을 비롯한 충청권 국회의원, 상병헌·이순열 세종시의장을 비롯한 시의원, 세종시 여야정당, 세종시민 등 노력한 모든 분들께 감사의 말씀을 드린다" 정치권에서 힘을 실어준 것에 감사를 표했다.
그는 "이제 남은 것은 법사위와 본회의 통과인데 무난히 잘 될 것으로 믿는다"며 "일단 한시름 놓고 이제는 대통령 제2집무실이다. 이렇게 말씀드리겠다"고 대통령실 설치에 대한 의지를 나타냈다.

또 추가적으로 국회의원의 의정활동을 지원하고 세종시민의 문화공간으로 활용할 수 있도록 국회도서관을 세종에도 설치하는 것을 국회규칙에 명시하도록 했다.
부대의견으로 법제사법위원회를 추가적인 이전 대상으로 검토하도록 함으로써 향후 이전 규모가 더욱 확대될 수 있을 것으로 기대했다.
최 시장은 "앞으로 운영위 전체회의, 법사위, 본회의 의결 절차가 남아있지만, 여야가 자문단의 심도 있는 검토를 거쳐 함께 결단을 내린 만큼 무리 없이 통과할 것"이라고 확신했다.
또, "행정수도라는 명칭에 맞게 세종시에 국가 원수가 소지해야 한다. 제2 대통령 집무실이 조속히 올 수 있도록 하겠다"고 밝혔다.
이번에 국회 운영개선소위원회를 통과한 국회규칙안은 앞으로 운영위원회 전체회의, 법제사법위원회를 거쳐 본회의 심의·의결로 확정되게 된다.
특별한 사정이 없는 한 오는 30일에 개최될 예정인 운영위원회 전체회의에 상정될 것으로 예상된다.
