Hyundai Motor Company and Kia Motors achieved ‘highest ever’ performance, surpassing Samsung Electronics for the first time in cumulative donations in the third quarter of this year
Break News Reporter Moon Hong-cheol= Hyundai Motor Company and Kia Motors, which recorded record-breaking performance this year, increased their cumulative donation amount by 145.4 billion won by the third quarter of this year, donating more than Samsung Electronics for the first time in history.
The combined cumulative donations of Hyundai Motors and Kia in the third quarter of this year amounted to 209.9 billion won, which was more than 30 billion won more than Samsung Electronics, which donated 179.6 billion won during the same period. Among individual companies, Samsung Electronics still recorded the highest total amount despite a decrease in donations.
According to CEO Score on the 22nd, among the top 500 domestic companies, the donation details and performance (sales, operating profit and loss, net profit) of 264 companies that announced donation amounts for two consecutive years from 2022 to the third quarter of this year were investigated. Cumulative donations totaled KRW 1.4186 trillion, an increase of KRW 284.4 billion (25.1%) compared to KRW 1.1342 trillion in the same period last year.
The cumulative operating profit of these companies in the third quarter of this year was 93.3716 trillion won, a decrease of 42.4509 trillion won (31.3%↓) from 135.8225 trillion won in the same period last year. Sales also decreased by 85.071 trillion won (4.5%↓) from 1887.8197 trillion won in the same period last year to 1802.8126 trillion won this year.
As a result, even though the performance of most major domestic companies has worsened due to the global economic slowdown, donations have increased significantly compared to the previous year.
By company, Hyundai Motor Company and Kia Motors, which recorded record-breaking performance this year, were found to have increased their donations the most. In the case of Hyundai Motor Company, its accumulated donations as of the third quarter of this year amounted to KRW 136.2 billion, an increase of KRW 87.6 billion (179.9%) compared to KRW 48.7 billion in the same period last year. Kia, which ranked second, also recorded 73.6 billion won in accumulated donations during the same period, an increase of 57.8 billion won (365.9%) compared to 15.8 billion won in the same period last year.
This rapid increase in donations from Hyundai Motors and Kia is largely due to the record-high performance this year. Hyundai Motor Company's cumulative operating profit in the third quarter of this year was KRW 11.6524 trillion, a surge of 80.4% compared to the previous year, and Kia Motors' cumulative operating profit in the third quarter also surged 98.4% to KRW 9.1421 trillion.
This was followed by Hana Bank (KRW 53.6 billion, 257.0%↑), HMM (KRW 24.8 billion, 1712.9%↑), Korea Electric Power Corporation (KRW 21.9 billion, 22.7%↑), Ssangyong C&E (KRW 20.6 billion, ↑1239.9%), and SK Energy (KRW 15.2 billion). ·2188.2%↑), LG Household & Health Care (KRW 13.9 billion, 30.1%↑), Korean Air (KRW 13.3 billion, 232.5%↑), and KT (KRW 11.2 billion, 91.5%↑).
On the other hand, the company that reduced donations the most this year was Kyobo Life Insurance. As of the third quarter, Kyobo Life's cumulative donations amounted to 1.6 billion won, a sharp decline of 43.9 billion won (96.5%↓) compared to 45.5 billion won in the same period last year. Life insurance companies, including Kyobo Life Insurance, contribute a portion of the previous year's tax profits (0.5% for listed companies and 0.25% for unlisted companies) to the Life Insurance Social Contribution Committee as social contribution funds every year. As tax profits have plummeted, the size of donations has also decreased significantly. It is interpreted that it has decreased.
In addition, Samsung Electronics (-KRW 43.3 billion, 19.4%↓) and SK Hynix (-KRW 15.7 billion, 27.3%↓), whose performance deteriorated due to semiconductor and cold weather, also significantly reduced their donation support this year.
Following Samsung and SK, Korea Midland Power Company (-5.6 billion won, 42.6%↓), Korea Southern Power Company (-5.4 billion won, 70.8%↓), Hana Financial Group (-5.1 billion won, 42.9%↓), and Lotte Chemical (-3.4 billion won) ·31.9%↓), SK N Move (-3 billion won, 89.0%↓), LS Electric (-2.8 billion won, 78.7%↓), and Korea Hydro & Nuclear Power (-2.7 billion won, 13.6%↓) also decreased in donations.
However, although Samsung Electronics reduced its donations this year compared to the previous year, it still maintained the first place in donation volume among individual companies. Samsung Electronics donated a total of 179.6 billion won as of the third quarter of this year.
This is followed by Hyundai Motors (KRW 136.2 billion), Korea Electric Power Corporation (KRW 118.5 billion), Hana Bank (KRW 74.5 billion), Kia (KRW 73.6 billion), LG Household & Health Care (KRW 60.1 billion), SK Hynix (KRW 41.6 billion), POSCO (KRW 37.8 billion), and HMM. (KRW 26.3 billion) and Woori Bank (KRW 23.8 billion).
In the case of KEPCO, despite its large deficit, it recorded more than 100 billion won in accumulated donations this year. This is because most of the donations are contributions to the Korea Institute of Energy Technology (KEPCO), which has a strong fixed cost nature.
