브레이크뉴스 정명훈 기자= '민주당 전당대회 돈봉투 의혹'으로 재판에 넘겨진 윤관석 무소속 의원이 1심에서 실형을 선고받았다.
서울중앙지법 형사합의21-2부(부장판사 김정곤·김미경·허경무)는 31일 정당법 위반 혐의로 기소된 윤관석 의원에게 징역 2년을 선고했다.
재판부는 또한 같은 혐의를 받고 있는 강래구 전 한국수자원공사 상임감사에게도 징역 1년8개월과 벌금 600만원, 추징금 300만원을 선고했다.
아울러 윤 의원의 신청한 보석 청구도 기각하고 구속 상태를 유지했으며 강 전 감사에 대해선 이날 법정구속했다.
재판부는 "피고인들은 당대표 경선에 참여한 당원들과 국민의 민의를 왜곡했다"면서 "당대표 경선의 공정성도 훼손돼 정당 민주주의가 위협받았다는 점에서 죄질이 매우 불량하다"고 밝혔다.
이어 "국회의원에게 교부할 목적으로 6000만원 상당의 불법적인 금액을 조성하고 계획적으로 금품을 제공해 불법성 역시 중대하다"며 "국민들의 정당 민주주의에 대한 신뢰를 다시금 크게 훼손했다는 점에서 범행을 주도한 피고인들의 죄책은 매우 무겁다"고 지적했다.
그러면서 "선거캠프 내에서 활동가들에게 금품을 지급하는 관행이 있다는 피고인들의 주장으로 범행을 정당화하거나 죄책 감경 사유가 될 수 없다"고 덧붙였다.
한편 이들은 지난 2021년 5월 민주당 전당대회를 앞두고 송영길 전 대표의 당선을 위한 돈봉투 살포에 관여했다는 혐의를 받고 있다.
