영국 정부는 2024년부터 한-영국 청년교류제도 연간 할당량이 대폭 확대됨에 따라 연령 범위를 넓히는 동시에 추첨에 의한 무작위 선발 절차를 폐지한다고 밝혔다.
양국 청년교류제도(YMS) 비자 발급은 2024년 1월 31일부터 기존 연간 1000명에서 5000명으로 확대됐고, 연령 상한도 기존 30세에서 35세로 상향됐다.
선발은 기존의 무작위 추첨이 아닌 선착순 방식으로 이뤄지며 대한민국 국적자로 자격 기준을 충족하는 경우, 영국 정부 홈페이지를 통해 상시 신청이 가능하다.
영국 청년교류제도는 대한민국 청년이 영국에 2년간 체류하며 취업, 어학연수 및 여행 등을 통해 영국의 언어와 문화를 체험할 수 있는 제도이다. 그간 수천 명의 청년들이 이 제도를 통해 영국을 방문해 다양한 기회를 가졌다.
