브레이크뉴스 최애리 기자= 세계 최초로 비트코인을 법정화폐로 도입한 나이브 부켈레 엘살바도르 대통령이 최근 비트코인 급등의 수혜를 보고 있다.
부켈레 대통령은 지난 2021년 9월 비트코인을 법정통화로 지정하고 국고를 들여 매집하기 시작했다.
나이브 대통령은 비트코인이 하락할 때마다 추매에 나서면서 계속해서 비트코인을 투자했다. 그는 한때 30%에 달하는 손실을 입고 있었음에도 "엘살바도르는 떨어질 때 마다 산다(just bought the dip)"면서 계속해서 매집하겠다는 의지를 표명했다.

이어 그는 "우리가 비트코인을 매입했을 때 언론은 문자 그대로 수천 개의 비판 기사를 썼다"면서 "그러나 비트코인이 많이 올랐기 때문에 지금 우리가 팔면 40% 이상의 이익을 얻을 수 있다"고 밝혔다.
그러면서 "정부에 비트코인을 기부하는 외국인에게는 신속하게 시민권을 제공할 것"이라고 덧붙였다.
부켈레 대통령은 지난 2월 85% 이상의 득표율로 재선에 성공했다.

Bukele won reelection in February with more than 85% of the vote.
