윤석열 대통령이 13일 "우주개발 예산을 1조5000억 이상, 우주산업클러스터에 1조 이상 집중 투자·각종 정책으로 강력 지원하겠다고 밝혔다.
윤 대통령은 이날 경남 사천 한국항공우주산업(KAI)에서 열린 '우주산업클러스터' 출범식에 참석해 "우주산업 클러스터가 5대 우주강국을 향한 위대한 여정을 선도하게 될 것"이라며 이같이 말했다.
우주산업클러스터는 경남·전남·대전 3개 지역을 축으로 한 우주산업 도약 전진기지로 '위성 특화지구' 경남과 '발사체 특화지구' 전남, '연구·인재개발 특화지구' 대전을 삼각 편대로 민간 주도 우주산업 육성 시스템을 만드는 게 골자다.
윤 대통령은 축사에서 "우주 기술이 안보 경쟁에 머무르던 시대는 지났다"며 "우주산업이 기존 산업 경쟁력을 높이고 신산업을 탄생시키는 미래 성장 동력"이라고 말했다.
그러면서 "우주항공청 설립·우주경제 로드맵 제시에 이어 오늘 세계 최고 수준 우주산업 클러스터 삼각 체제를 출범시켰다"며 "정부는 2027년까지 우주개발 예산을 1조5000억으로 확대하고, 민간이 구축하기 어려운 핵심인프라를 정부가 책임지고 구축하겠다"고 밝혔다.
우주산업클러스터에 대한 정부 지원 방안 경우 정부-민간 매칭 우주펀드 2027년까지 1000억으로 확대·우주산업클러스터에 2031년까지 1조 이상 자금 이상 확대 등이 제시됐다.
윤 대통령은 "이같은 전폭 지원이 2045년 100조 민간투자를 이끌어내고 25만개 이상 양질 일자리를 창출할 것으로 기대하고 있다"고 전망했다.
이날 이종호 과학기술정보통신부 장관은 우주산업클러스터 미래 발전 방향을 발표한 한편 3각 체제를 맡을 경남·전남·대전지역 단체장 경우 각 특구별 미래 모습을 제시했다.
윤 대통령은 경남·전남·대전을 대표하는 학생 및 우주과학 연구자들과 무대에 올라 우주산업 클러스터의 성공적 구축 및 글로벌 우주경제 강국 도약을 기원했다.
이 자리엔 박원수 경남지사·김영록 전남지사·이장우 대전시장·대통령실 성태윤 정책실장·박상욱 과학기술수석 등과 우주항공 분야 기업인·연구자·대학(원)생, 경남지역 주민 등 450여명이 참석했다.
