2일 밤 10시 처음 방영된 MBN 한일가왕전에서 일본 대표 천재 소녀 가수 아즈마 아키는 류 테츠야(竜鉄也, 1936~2010)의 정통 엔카 오쿠히다 모정(奧飛驛慕情)을 불렀다.
이 노래는 많은 이야기가 있다. 원곡 가수 테츠야는 중학교 2학년에 시력을 잃고 수술을 받아 희미한 시력을 찾은 후 안마사가 되었다. 그러나 25살이던 1961년 영원히 시력을 잃어 시각장애인이 되었다.
이후 일본 중부 기후현 히다 지방 다카야마시 일대에 있는 히라유온천(平湯温泉), 후쿠지온천(福地温泉), 신히라유온천(新平湯温泉), 도치오온천(栃尾温泉), 신호다카온천(新穂高温泉)의 5곳 유명 온천을 이르는 오쿠히다 온천마을 일대에서 엔카를 노래하며 생활하였다. 뛰어난 음악적 재능과 감성을 가졌던 테츠야는 자신의 노래를 작사 작곡하여 부른 싱어송 라이터였다.
오쿠히다 온천마을에서 생활하며 가슴에 녹아든 이야기를 바탕으로 1972년 기념 음반으로 발표한 노래가 "오쿠히다 모정"이었다. 이후 기후시 인근 소도시 구죠하치만(郡上八幡)에서 노래하고 있을 때 일본의 유명 작사가 키타조 마코토(喜多條忠)가 그의 노래 오쿠히다 모정을 발굴하여 1980년 트리오레코드에서 정규 음반으로 발표되었다.
음반 발표 후 유선방송에서부터 시작된 인기가 6개월 후 오리콘 톱 10에 오르면서 1981년 제14회 일본 유선 대상을 수상하였으며 그해 말 제32회 NHK홍백가합전에 출전하게 되는 기적이 일어났다.
일본의 알프스로 부르는 히다산맥이 걸쳐있는 오랜 역사를 품은 오쿠히다 온천 마을의 감성을 시각장애인의 가슴으로 품은 이 노래는 일본 엔카 특유의 느낌이 흥건한 노래이다.
아즈마 아키양은 16살 어린 소녀이지만, 4살때부터 뛰어난 감성을 가지고 노래한 천재 소녀이다. 필자가 소녀의 노래를 오랫동안 들어오면서 일본 정통 엔카에 담긴 큰 고음이 없는 흐름에서 애절한 감성을 건져 올리는 재능은 가히 천재적이다.
이 노래는 일본의 유명 남자 가수 이츠키 히로시(五木ひろし)에서부터 수 많은 가수들이 커버하였다.
특히 내노라 하는 여성 가수들이 커버한 내용을 살펴보면 지난해 말 세상을 떠난 엔카의 여왕 야시로 아키(八代亜紀)에서부터 무라카미 사치코(村上幸子), 시마츠 아야(島津亜矢), 후지 케이코(藤圭子), 가와나카 미유키(川中美幸), 시마쿠라 치요코(島倉千代子)에 이르는 특성적인 음색과 감성이 뛰어난 여성 가수들이 커버한 노래다.
