고양특례시(시장 이동환)는 농촌지역 실외사육견 중성화 수술 지원사업을 추진하고 있다고 4일 밝혔다.
특히 올해는 개식용종식특별법(2024.2.6.) 제정에 따라 식육견을 사육하는 농장에서 사육견이 증식할 경우 폐쇄명령 대상이 된다.
이에 시는 버려지는 개가 발생할 것을 감안해 농촌동 통장회의에 홍보하는 등 적극적으로 알리고 있다.
지난해까지는 동물병원에 방문해야만 중성화수술을 받을 수 있어 실외사육견을 직접 데리고 이동하기 어려운 신청자가 중성화수술을 포기하는 사례가 다수 발생했으나, 올해는 수의사가 사육 장소를 방문해 수술할 수 있도록 시에서 지침 개정을 건의한 것이 반영돼 현재 중성화수술을 받은 마릿수의 43%가 사육 장소에서 수술을 받았다.
시는 사업량이 당초 90두였으나, 신청자 증가로 30마리를 추가로 신청해 놓은 상태이다.
