故백재경 병장은 돌을 갓 지난 아들과 배우자를 두고 6·25전쟁에 참전하여 그해 경기 이천지구 전투에서 장렬히 전사했다.
故백재경 병장의 자녀 백승렬씨는 "어릴 때 부친이 전쟁에서 전사하여, 사진으로 부친의 얼굴을 보고 그리워만 했다. 어머님은 꽃다운 나이에 남편을 잃고 홀로 긴 세월 힘들게 살아오셨는데 이제라도 잊지 않고 명예를 찾아주셔서 감사드린다“고 말했다.
