박지원 의원실이 주최하고, 완도군과 (사)한국해양바이오학회가 공동으로 주관하는 ‘블루카본, 해조류가 여는 바다 미래 포럼’이 14일 오후 국회의원회관 제2소회의실에서 열렸다.
이번 포럼은 해조류를 활용한 탄소 저감을 위한 ‘블루카본’으로서의 국제인증, 더 나아가 해양바이오산업의 발전 가능성 모색을 위해 마련됐다. ‘블루카본’은 갯벌이나 연안 퇴적물, 식물 등 해양생태계가 흡수하는 탄소를 말하며, 현재 국가온실가스 감축목표달성여부를 검증하는 IPCC(정부간 기후변화 협의체)에서 인증받은 블루카본은 해초류, 염생식물, 맹그로브 등 3종이다.
