전북자치도가 실증사업의 타당성과 실행 가능성을 인정받아 '기능성식품 규제자유특구'로 지정됐다.
'규제자유특구'는 지역 전략산업과 혁신 사업을 키우기 위한 목적으로 비수도권 광역자치단체 특정 지역에 일정 기간 동안 규제 특례를 부여해 새로운 기술이나 신사업 실증을 돕는 제도다.
21일 전북특별자치도에 따르면 이날 중기부는 '제15차 규제자유특구위원회'를 개최해 규제자유특구 3곳과 글로벌혁신 규제자유특구 3곳의 신규 지정(안) 등을 심의ㆍ·의결 확정했다.
전북은 2019년 친환경자동차ㆍ2020년 탄소융복합산업에 이어 5년 만에 세 번째 규제자유특구로 지정됐다.
특히 린바이오 기반의 신성장 산업 생태계 조성을 목표로 추진한 전략의 주요 성과로 고령화와 건강에 대한 관심 증가에 따른, 시장 수요가 급증하는 기능성식품 분야에서 전북이 선제적으로 산업기반을 강화할 수 있는 계기가 될 것으로 기대된다.
'전북 기능성식품 규제자유특구' 사업은 2026년부터 2028년까지 총 159억 원이 투입된다.
익산ㆍ전주ㆍ순창ㆍ남원 지역 15개 기업(기관)이 참여한다.
