태안화력발전소의 단계적 폐지를 앞두고 충남 태안군이 지역사회의 경제적, 사회적 영향을 최소화하기 위한 적극적인 대응책 마련에 나섰다.
태안군은 지난 28일 이주영 부군수를 비롯한 관계 공무원 15명이 참석한 가운데 군청 중회의실에서 '2025년 상반기 태안화력발전소 폐지 대응 태안군 TF 회의'를 개최했다고 밝혔다.
이번 회의는 지난해 6월 열린 '태안화력 폐지 대응 신규사업 발굴 보고회'의 후속 조치로 진행되었으며, 군은 산업육성, 경제지원, 문화관광, 해양수산, 기반시설 등 총 5개 분야에서 21개의 장·단기 사업 발굴 및 추진 계획을 논의했다.
주요 발굴 사업으로는 산업육성 분야의 '청년층 농업인구 유입을 위한 가공산업 육성'을 포함한 3개 사업 ,경제지원 분야의 '석탄화력발전소 주변지역 건강검진 지원 확대' 등 3개 사업이 추진될 예정이다.
또한, 문화관광 분야에서는 '북부권 파크골프장 조성' 등 5개 사업 ,해양수산 분야에서는 '가로림만 해양생태공원 활성화 사업' 등 2개 사업이 계획이며. 이와 함께 ,기반시설 분야에서는 '도시가스 공급시설 설치비 지원' 등 8개 사업이 실시된다.

태안군 관계자는 "태안군은 지난해와 올해 세 차례 '석탄발전 전환 협의체' 회의에 참석하여 정부에 군의 입장을 전달하고, 지난 21일 한국서부발전 및 5개 협력사와 '에너지 전환 공동대응 TF 회의'를 개최하는 등 다각적인 노력을 기울이고 있다"고 설명했다.
