이번 표창은 오랜 기간 헌혈 문화 확산과 안정적인 혈액 수급에 기여한 공로를 인정받아 수여된 것으로, 이 총회장을 대신해 총회 기획부장이 수여 받았다.
세계 헌혈자의 날(6월 14일)을 맞아 보건복지부와 대한적십자사가 주최한 ‘2025 헌혈자의 날’ 기념행사는 헌혈 유공자들에게 감사를 전하고 헌혈의 중요성을 알리는 공식 행사로 마련됐다.
신천지예수교회는 지난 10여년간 헌혈을 가장 직접적인 생명 봉사로 여기며 꾸준히 실천해왔다.
코로나19 팬데믹 당시 혈액 수급 위기를 극복하기 위해 전국 단위로 헌혈 캠페인을 전개했으며, 2022년 한 해에만 총 9만 6000여 명이 헌혈에 참여했다.
특히 신천지예수교회 청년봉사단체 ‘위아원’은 헌혈의 중요성을 알리기 위해 24시간 만에 7만 1121명이 온라인 헌혈 신청을 완료하며 기네스 세계기록에 등재돼 국내외의 큰 주목을 받았다. 당시 기록은 민간 주도의 선한 영향력 실천 사례로 평가받았다.
2023년에는 여름방학 대학생, 여름휴가 직장인, 추석 귀성객 등을 대상으로 한 헌혈버스를 운영하고, 헌혈의 집이 부족한 지역에 헌혈 버스를 적극 활용하며 투입해 참여 접근성을 높였다. 또한 헌혈 포토존, 레드 챌린지, 릴스 캠페인 등 다양한 콘텐츠를 통해 MZ세대의 관심을 유도하며 문화적 접근도 함께 시도했다.
신천지예수교회는 단순한 참여를 넘어, 기부권과 헌혈증 기부를 통해 사회적 환원까지 실천하고 있다.
최근 4년간 약 21만 명의 참여로 9억 3000만 원 상당의 헌혈 기부권 기금을 조성했으며, 이 기금은 전액 취약계층 의료비, 장학금, 긴급지원 등 생명 보호사업에 사용됐다.
또한 헌혈증 기부도 활발히 이뤄졌다. 지난 3년간 ▲대한적십자사 혈액관리본부 5000장 ▲대전세종충남혈액원 3000장 ▲전북도청 3012장 ▲한국백혈병소아암협회 대구경북지회 3000장 ▲대동병원 2000장 등 다수의 병원과 기관에 수천 장 단위로 전달했다.
신천지예수교회와 위아원의 헌혈 봉사는 전국 권역별 혈액원으로부터도 다수 표창을 수상하기도 했다.
지난 2022년부터 현재까지 수상한 기관 표창만 해도 ▲대한적십자사 혈액관리본부장상 ▲부산경남, 서울경기, 대전충청, 강원, 인천, 광주전남, 대구경북 등 전국 권역별 혈액원장상 15건 이상에 달한다.
특히 2024년에는 광주전남, 전북, 서울경기권(4개 지역연합회), 대구경북, 강원, 인천, 부산경남 등 단체 및 개인 부문 수상이 연이어 이루어지며, 신뢰받는 민간 종교단체로서의 위상을 더욱 확고히 했다.
신천지예수교회 관계자는 “우리는 예수님께 새 생명을 받은 사람들로서 그 사랑을 이웃에게 나누는 삶을 살아야 한다는 가르침을 실천하고자 헌혈 운동에 앞장서고 있다”며 “생명을 살리는 이 일이야말로 신앙의 본질이며, 앞으로도 헌혈을 통한 사회 환원의 선순환 모델을 꾸준히 이어가겠다”고 말했다.
