올해는 짧은 장마 이후 무더위가 일찍 찾아오면서 열사병과 열탈진 등 온열질환자가 증가하는 추세다. 이에 따라 포항제철소는 작업장 내 체감온도 상승에 대비해 예방 중심의 안전 관리 체계를 강화하고 있다.
포항제철소는 ▲폭염 알림 문자 발송 ▲작업장 수시 점검 ▲위험도별 현장 대응 매뉴얼 운영 ▲근로자 안전의식 제고 등 전방위적인 대책을 시행 중이다.
먼저, 제철소 전 직원을 대상으로 ‘하절기 온열 지킴이 문자 서비스’를 하루 두 차례 운영하고 있다. 이 문자에는 시간대별 체감온도, 권장 휴식 시간, 예방 물품 신청 방법 등이 안내돼 있어, 임직원들이 신속히 대응할 수 있도록 돕고 있다.
작업장 내 안전 점검도 강화됐다. 관리감독자가 작업 시작 전 근로자의 건강 상태를 점검하고, 작업 중에는 체감온도를 기록하며 휴식 시간 준수 여부를 철저히 관리한다. 특히, 폭염 위험도를 ‘관심’, ‘주의’, ‘경고’의 3단계로 구분하고 이에 맞춰 휴식 장소와 시간을 조정하는 ‘위험도별 현장 관리 수칙’도 시행 중이다.

유해성 포항제철소 산업보건센터장은 “폭염 속에서도 임직원 모두가 건강하게 일할 수 있도록 냉방, 휴식, 건강 관리 등 다양한 예방책을 마련했다”며 “앞으로도 안전한 작업 환경 조성을 위해 지속적으로 노력하겠다”고 밝혔다.
