APEC 정상회의 개최지 경주의 금관에서 금강산까지 AI와 함께 떠나는 문화유산의 여정이 런던에서 시작되었다.
주영한국문화원(원장 선승혜)은 국립중앙박물관과 협력하여 특별전 “염화미소: 인공지능과 문화유산(Endless Bonds: AI and Korean Heritage)”을 2025년 7월 17일 성황리에 개막하였다. 본 전시는 외교부의 국가이미지 제고 사업 및 ‘한국주간(Korea Week)’의 일환으로 기획되어 첨단 기술과 전통문화유산의 융합을 통해 한국의 문화강국 역량과 글로벌 소프트파워를 입증하는 계기가 되었다.
이번 전시는 APEC 2025의 우리가 만들어가는 지속 가능한 내일: 연결, 혁신, 번영(Building Sustainable Tomorrow: Connect, Innovate, Prosper)의 주제를 인공지능과 문화유산을 융합한 새로운 접근 방식을 통해 런던 시민과 K-컬처 팬들에게 깊은 인상을 남겼다. 개막식에는 200여 명이 참석하였으며 다양한 국적의 인사들이 함께하여 한국 문화유산에 대한 국제적 관심을 확인하는 계기가 되었다.
선승혜 주영한국문화원장은 개막식에서 “2025년 APEC 정상회의의 개최 의미를 첨단기술과 문화유산의 융합을 통해 영국에서 소개하고자 하였다. APEC 개최지인 경주의 금관을 인공지능과 웹소설체 대화 방식으로 해설하고, 석굴암 본존불 앞에서 AI와의 대화를 기반으로 한 새로운 감상 경험을 구성하였다”며, “인공지능과의 공진화를 통해 영국 시민에게 보다 정교하고 감성적인 맞춤형 문화유산 체험을 제공하고자 하였다”고 밝혔다.

선승혜 문화원장은 이어 “국립중앙박물관의 실감형 콘텐츠인 “왕의 행차, 백성과 함께 하다”와 “금강산에 오르다”를 영국 현지에서 처음 소개하게 되어 매우 뜻깊게 생각한다”며, “디지털 기술을 통해 한국 문화의 정수를 세계 시민에게 전달함으로써, 문화강국으로서의 위상을 공고히 하는 새로운 소프트파워 전략에 더욱 매진하겠다”고 전시 개최의 의의를 강조하였다.
이번 전시는 총 3부로 구성되었다. 제1부 ‘염화미소’는 정조의 화성행차와 금강산의 실경산수를 실감 영상으로 재현하여 한국 미학의 전통미와 자연관을 강조하였다. 제2부 ‘불립문자’는 관람객이 AI와 미술사학자의 대화를 기반으로 한 맞춤형 해설을 통해 한국의 금관, 석굴암을 웹 소설체의 AI 해설과 함께 체험하게 한다. 제3부 ‘이심전심’은 영국 주요 기관이 소장한 한국문화유산의 디지털 아카이빙 현황을 조명하고 AI로 해설하여, 양국 문화유산의 연결을 시도한다.
특히 영국의 관람객들은 국립중앙박물관의 실감형 콘텐츠인 “왕의 행차, 백성과 함께 하다”와 “금강산에 오르다”를 통해 정조의 통치 철학과 조선 후기 진경산수화의 미학을 생생히 경험하였다. 또한 AI 해설을 통해 금관총 금관, 의궤 등 국보와 보물을 영국 왕실문화와 비교하면서 깊이 있는 문화적 이해를 도모하였다. 특히 금강산은 유네스코 세계문화유산으로 지정되어 직접 방문이 어려운 이들에게도 디지털 기술을 통해 감상할 수 있는 새로운 형태의 문화 향유 방식을 제시한다.
전시에서는 또한 영국 내 7개 기관(영국박물관, V&A, 영국도서관, 옥스퍼드대학교, 캠브리지대학교 등)이 소장한 한국문화유산의 디지털 이미지가 함께 소개되었다. ‘옥계사’, ‘채제공 초상’, ‘하다’ 어미의 변화가 기록된 문헌 자료등과 18세기 제작된 세계지도 등 일반에 잘 알려지지 않았던 문화재의 데이터가 전시되어 현지 관람객들에게 깊은 인상을 남겼다.
특별전 개막식에 참석한 캠브리지대학 도서관 세계문명부장 알레산드로 비앙키(Alessandro Bianchi) 박사는 지난 캠브리지대학 한국의 날의 성공적인 공동주최에 이어 문화원 행사에 참석하여 성공적인 전시를 축하했다.

에린 코놀리(Erin Connolly)는 “시간과 공간을 초월한 한국의 문화유산을 체험할 수 있어 감동적이었다. 영국에서 한국의 역사와 미를 만나는 특별한 기회였다”고 소감을 전했다.
차재민 주영한국문화원 전시 담당은 “기술을 통해 유물, 공간, 관람객이 유기적으로 연결되도록 기획하였으며, 한국문화유산을 새롭고 직관적인 방식으로 소개할 수 있었던 소중한 기회였다”고 전했다.

The Korean Cultural Center UK (Director Seon Seung-hye) and the National Museum of Korea successfully opened the special exhibition “Yeomhwamiso: AI and Cultural Heritage” on July 17, 2025. This exhibition was planned as part of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs’ national image enhancement project and ‘Korea Week’, and served as an opportunity to demonstrate Korea’s cultural powerhouse capabilities and global soft power through the convergence of cutting-edge technology and traditional cultural heritage.
This exhibition left a deep impression on Londoners and K-culture fans through a new approach that combines AI and cultural heritage with the theme of Building Sustainable Tomorrow: Connect, Innovate, Prosper of APEC 2025. Around 200 people attended the opening ceremony, and people of various nationalities participated, confirming the international interest in Korean cultural heritage.
At the opening ceremony, Seon Seung-hye, Director of the Korean Cultural Center UK, said, “We wanted to introduce the meaning of hosting the 2025 APEC Summit in the UK through the combination of cutting-edge technology and cultural heritage. In particular, British visitors vividly experienced King Jeongjo’s governing philosophy and the aesthetics of Joseon Dynasty’s Jinkyung landscape paintings through the National Museum of Korea’s realistic content, “The King’s Procession, Together with the People” and “Climbing Geumgangsan.” In addition, AI-assisted explanations were used to compare national treasures and treasures, such as the Geumgwanchong Gold Crown and Uigwe, with British royal culture, thereby promoting a deeper cultural understanding. Cha Jae-min, Exhibition Manager at the Korean Cultural Center UK, said, “We planned it so that artifacts, space, and visitors could be organically connected through technology, and it was a valuable opportunity to introduce Korean cultural heritage in a new and intuitive way.”
This special exhibition will run until August 22, 2025, and cultural programs are planned.
