[브레이크뉴스=이성용 기자] 경남도는 대한민국 해양레저관광 분야에서 ‘그랜드슬램’을 달성하며 남해안을 세계적인 해양관광 중심지로 도약하고 있다.
경남도는 관광개발국 내에 ‘남해안과’를 신설해 해양레저관광 전담 추진체계를 구축했으며, 국가 및 국제 성과를 잇달아 거두며 남해안 관광시대를 본격적으로 열었다.
통영·거제·창원 등 남해안 주요 도시에 국가 및 국제 해양이벤트와 대형 공모사업을 연이어 유치하며, 경남은 남해안 관광시대를 주도할 전략 거점을 완성했다.
□ 대한민국 최초 ‘복합해양레저관광도시’ 선정
경남도는 해양수산부 ‘복합해양레저관광도시’ 공모사업에서 대한민국 최초로 대상지에 선정됐다.
총사업비 1조 1,400억 원(민자 9,400억, 재정 2,000억)을 투입해 통영 도산·도남 권역에 대규모 리조트와 해양복합터미널, 요트클럽센터, 미디어아트 수상공연장 등을 조성하고, 숙박·체험·문화가 결합된 체류형 글로벌 해양관광도시로 육성할 계획이다.

□ 2025-26 클리퍼 세계일주 요트대회 기항지 유치
경남도는 세계적인 해양스포츠 이벤트인 ‘클리퍼 세계일주 요트대회(Clipper Round the World Yacht Race)’를 통영에 유치했다.
이 대회는 세계 최초로 무동력 요트 세계일주 항해에 성공한 영국의 로빈 녹스-존스턴 경이 창안해 1996년 처음 개최된 극한의 해양스포츠 대회다.
약 11개월간 7만 4,000km를 항해하며 전 세계 주요 해양도시를 기항한다. 아마추어도 참가할 수 있는 세계 최고 권위의 요트대회로 평가받는다.
대회는 오는 31일 영국을 출발해 남아메리카, 남아프리카, 호주를 거쳐 2026년 3월경 통영에 기항(7일간 체류)한 뒤, 태평양을 건너 미국과 대서양을 지나 영국으로 귀항할 예정이다.

경남 거제시가 ‘2026 전국해양스포츠제전’ 개최지로 선정됐다.
해양수산부 주관으로 2006년부터 매년 열리는 전국해양스포츠제전은 국내 최대 규모의 해양스포츠 종합대회로, 해양스포츠의 대중화와 저변 확대를 목표로 한다.
거제시는 해양레포츠센터, 지세포 수변공원, 구조라·와현해수욕장 등 우수한 해양레저 환경을 갖추고 있으며, 이번이 첫 개최다.
전국체육대회 요트경기, 해양경찰청장배 전국요트대회, 거제바다로세계로 등 다수의 해양스포츠 이벤트를 성공적으로 개최한 경험이 높이 평가됐다.
이번 대회 유치로 국비 7억 원, 도비 3억 원 등 총 20억 원의 사업비가 투입되며, ‘거제바다로세계로’와 ‘장승포맥주축제’ 등과 연계해 선수단과 관람객 40만여 명이 거제를 방문할 것으로 예상된다.
이를 통해 지역경제 활성화와 해양관광 브랜드 가치 제고가 기대된다.

경남도는 해양수산부 주관 ‘2024년 해양레저관광 거점 공모사업’에서 최종 선정되어 창원시 진해구 명동 일원에 ‘바다랑 섬(썸)타는 진해’ 프로젝트를 추진하고 있다.
2024년부터 2028년까지 5년간 총사업비 430억 원(국비 215억 원 포함)을 투입해 도시형 해양레저 거점을 조성할 계획이다.
