필자는 지난 2006년부터 누드화를 모아왔다. 19년째 누드화를 소장해온 소장가(所藏家-누드화 3,000여 점 소장)이다. 그림 컬렉터인 셈이다. 그러하니, 여러 분야의 예술품 소장가들에 대해, 항상 동정심(同情心)을 갖는다.

필자는 전라도 출신(전남 담양)이다. 전라도가 낳은 화가인 배동신 화가(1920-2008)의 작품들을 소장해온 최효삼 소장가(古藝家 대표)를 알고 지낸다. 이 분은 전라도 출신(전북 전주)이다. 미원그룹 상무 출신. 지난 1975년 배동신 화백을 만난 이후, 주욱 배동신 화백의 그림을 사 모았다. 지난 8월18일 오후, 이 분을 만났다.
“제가 소장한 배동신 화백의 그림들을 계산해보니, 총 604점(유화 10점-수채화 324점-뎃상 144점-자화상 136점 등)이나 됩니다. 전라도가 낳은 화가이시니 전라도 어느 곳에 이 분의 이름을 딴 미술관이 지어졌으면 합니다.”

경제적으로 어려운 환경 속에서도 그림을 소장하는 소장가가 있다는 것은 그가 속한 사회의 행복한 일이랄 수 있다. 페기 구겐하임을 복기하면 그 답이 나온다.
