이번 교육은 진천군 내 외국인 주민과 다문화가족 인구가 지속적으로 증가함에 따라, 공직사회가 다양한 문화적 배경을 이해하고, 차별과 편견 없는 포용적 행정 실현을 위한 인식개선을 목적으로 마련됐다.
이날 교육은 JTBC ‘비정상회담’, EBS 등 방송에 출연하며 법무부 사회통합 이민자 멘토로 활동 중인 수잔 샤키야 씨를 초청해 강의를 진행했다.
수잔 강사는 네팔 출신 이주민으로서의 생생한 경험과 시각을 바탕으로, 다문화에 대한 공감과 이해, 실질적인 소통 방법 등을 전달했다.
안지원 군 인구정책과 주무관은 “이번 교육이 공직자들이 다문화 사회에 대한 인식을 넓히고, 향후 외국인 주민, 다문화가족 정책 수립과 서비스 제공에 있어 문화적 감수성을 높일 수 있는 계기가 됐다”며 “앞으로 인식개선 교육 대상을 지역 주민까지 점차 확대하고, 진천군이 다양성과 포용을 실현하는 대표 도시로 자리매김할 수 있도록 노력하겠다”고 말했다.
