사단법인 영토지킴이독도사랑회는 25일 ‘독도의 날’ 125주년을 맞아 독도홍보관과 고양시 문화초등학교 등 각급 학교에서 ‘독도 바로알기 프로젝트’를 진행하고, 독도의 날을 기념하는 특별 전시회를 개최하고 있다.

이번 프로젝트는 독도주간 특별 전시회의 일환으로, 10월 1일부터 31일까지 한 달간 독도홍보관에서 전시가 이어진다.
또한 ‘독도 바로알기 프로젝트’는 고양시 문화초등학교를 비롯해 40개 학교에서 독도 특별수업으로 운영되고 있다.
독도의 날 125주년을 기념해 추진된 이번 교육은 경기도교육청(교육감 임태희)의 주관 아래 고양·파주·김포 지역 초중등학교의 독도특강으로 이어졌다.
이어 고양교육지원청(교육장 이현숙)과 협의를 통해 고양시 관내 초중등학교에서도 오는 10월 29일까지 독도특강이 계속 진행된다.
길종성 독도사랑회 회장은 “독도 바로알기 프로젝트는 경기도교육청과 고양교육지원청이 전국에서 유일하게 진행하는 의미 있는 독도교육으로, 말이 아닌 실천으로 독도를 지키는 사례”라며 “정부는 선조들이 물려준 영토인 독도를 굳건히 지키기 위해 독도 바로알기 수업을 지속해야 한다”고 강조했다.
구경순 고양시 문화초등학교 교장은 “6학년 학생들이 독도 교육을 통해 자랑스러운 대한민국의 미래 주인으로서 나라 사랑과 독도 수호의 중요성을 더 깊이 느꼈을 것”이라며 독도교육의 필요성을 강조했다.
한편, 독도의 날을 맞아 독도사랑회 청소년 회원들은 독도홍보관에서 기념식을 열고 독도사진과 자료를 관람하며 독도의 날 125주년의 의미와 중요성을 되새겼다.
