【충북 브레이크뉴스】김봉수 기자=증평 출신 독립운동가 연병환 선생 일가(一家)의 숭고한 애국정신을 기리는 합동 추모제가 14일 도안면 명덕정사(明德精舍)에서 개최됐다.
이번 추모제는 조국 독립에 모든 것을 바친 연병환(1878~1926), 연병호(1894~1963), 연미당(1908~1981) 지사의 공헌을 기리고 후세에 독립 정신을 계승하기 위해 마련됐다.
이날 행사에서는 이재영 군수와 김덕중 애국지사 연병호 선생 기념사업회장을 비롯한 유족, 보훈단체 회원 등 50여 명이 참석했다.
연병환 선생은 1910년대 초 세 아우를 모두 불러 독립운동을 하도록 이끌었으며, 독립군의 자금과 무기를 조달하다 일제에 체포돼 2개월의 옥고를 치렀다.
2008년 건국훈장 대통령 표창에 추서됐다.
동생 연병호 선생은 대한민국임시정부 운영에 관여했으며, 만주에서는 독립군으로 무장활동을 했다.
광복 후 임시정부 환국준비회 영접부장 및 국회의원이 돼 국가 발전에 이바지했다.
1963년 건국훈장 독립장에 추서됐다.
연미당 선생은 중국 용정(龍井)과 상해(上海)에서 주로 활동했고, 특히 김구 선생을 남편 엄항섭과 함께 극진히 모셨다.
그녀는 남편과 함께 조국 독립에 한평생을 바쳤으며 1990년 건국훈장 애국장에 추서됐다.
