【충북 브레이크뉴스】김봉수 기자=충북 증평군은 겨울철 실내공기질 관리를 위해 라돈 저감 실천요령을 안내하고, 군민을 대상으로 라돈 측정기 무료대여 서비스를 운영하고 있다고 17일 밝혔다.
라돈은 땅속의 방사성 물질에서 자연적으로 발생하는 무색·무미·무취의 기체로, 노후 주택의 바닥이나 벽 틈새 등을 통해 실내에 축적될 수 있다.
장기간 고농도 라돈에 노출될 경우 폐암을 유발할 수 있어 세계보건기구(WHO)가 지정한 1급 발암물질이다.
특히 난방으로 인해 창문을 닫는 시간이 길어지는 겨울철에는 라돈 농도가 높아지기 쉬워 정기적인 환기와 실내공기질 관리가 중요하다.
군은 라돈 농도를 낮추는 가장 쉬운 방법으로 ‘창문을 열고 환기하기’를 생활화할 것을 권장하고 있다.
하루 아침·점심·오후 최소 3회 이상, 특히 아침에는 30분 이상 환기하는 것이 좋으며, 실내와 외부의 온도 차가 크거나 공간이 넓을수록 더 자주 환기해야 한다.
이와 함께 군은 군민 누구나 손쉽게 라돈 농도를 점검할 수 있도록 ‘라돈 측정기 무료대여 서비스’를 상시 운영하고 있다.
증평군에 주민등록이 된 군민이라면 신분증을 지참해 군청 환경위생과를 방문해 대여할 수 있으며, 대여 기간은 2일이다.
단, 측정기 수량이 한정돼 있으므로 방문 전 전화 문의로 이용 가능 여부를 확인하는 것이 좋다.
군 관계자는 “라돈은 보이지 않고 냄새도 없어 방심하기 쉽지만, 생활 속 작은 실천으로 충분히 줄일 수 있다”며 “정기적인 환기와 라돈 측정기를 통한 자가 점검으로 건강하고 안전한 실내환경을 유지하기 바란다”고 당부했다.
