【충북 브레이크뉴스】김봉수 기자=충북 진천군 정신건강복지센터는 26일 진천군보건소에서 관내 자살예방사업 관련 기관 종사자를 대상으로 ‘2025년 진천군 자살예방 조사연구사업 결과보고회’를 개최했다.
이번 보고회에서는 연구 조사자로 참여한 가톨릭꽃동네대학교 상담심리학과 배성훈․김혜련 교수가 △진천군 자살시도 생존자의 경험 탐색을 위한 질적 연구 결과 △구조화 집단상담 프로그램 개발과 효과성 검증 결과를 발표했다.
센터는 올해 4월 가톨릭꽃동네대학교 생명문화센터(센터장 김승주)와 업무협약(MOU)를 체결하고, 진천군 자살고위험군 특성 DB 구축, 근거 기반 개입 전략 수립, 생명존중 공동체 조성을 위한 예방․사후관리 체계 마련 등을 공동 목표로 협력해 오고 있다.
이번 조사연구는 연구 참여에 동의한 관내 자살시도자 25명을 대상으로 진행됐다.
자살 시도 전․후의 삶의 경험과 관련 요인 탐색을 위해 두 차례의 질적 심층 인터뷰를 실시했다.
또한 자살고위험군을 대상으로 우울, 자살사고 감소를 목표로 총 12회기 구조화 집단상담 프로그램을 운영하고, 사전․사후 평가를 통해 프로그램의 효과성을 검증했다.
배성훈․김혜련 교수는 “진천군에서는 지역적 특성을 반영한 자살예방 통합모델 구축이 필요하다”며 “자살시도 생존자에 대한 지속적․통합적 사후관리, 고립가구, 취약계층의 조기 발굴체계 마련, 농촌 지역 특성을 고려한 방문형 상담, 관계회복 중심 개입 확대, 관계기관 협력 강화 등을 통해 지역사회 안전망을 더욱 촘촘히 구축해야 한다”고 제언했다.
한편 진천군 자살률은 최근 5년 중 가장 높은 수치를 기록했으며, 통계청이 지난 9월 30일 발표한 자료에 따르면 2024년 진천군 자살사망자 수는 40명으로 전년 19명 대비 두 배 이상 증가한 것으로 나타난 바 있다.

Qualitative Research on Suicide Attempters, Verification of the Effectiveness of Group Counseling Programs
The Jincheon County Mental Health and Welfare Center in North Chungcheong Province held a '2025 Jincheon County Suicide Prevention Research Project Results Report' at the Jincheon County Public Health Center on the 26th for staff from local suicide prevention organizations.
At the report, Professors Bae Seong-hun and Kim Hye-ryeon of the Department of Counseling Psychology at Catholic Kkottongnae University, who participated as research investigators, presented the results of a qualitative study exploring the experiences of suicide attempt survivors in Jincheon County and the development and effectiveness verification of a structured group counseling program.
In April of this year, the center signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with the Catholic Kkottongnae University Life Culture Center (Director Kim Seung-ju). They have been collaborating toward the shared goals of building a database of high-risk suicide groups in Jincheon County, developing evidence-based intervention strategies, and establishing a prevention and follow-up management system to foster a life-respecting community.
This research was conducted with 25 suicide attempters in the county who agreed to participate.
Two qualitative in-depth interviews were conducted to explore life experiences before and after the suicide attempt and related factors.
Furthermore, a 12-session structured group counseling program was implemented for high-risk suicide groups, aimed at reducing depression and suicidal ideation. The program's effectiveness was verified through pre- and post-evaluations.
Professors Bae Seong-hun and Kim Hye-ryeon stated, "Jincheon County needs to establish an integrated suicide prevention model that reflects its regional characteristics." They suggested, "A more robust community safety net should be established through continuous and integrated follow-up care for suicide attempt survivors, early identification of isolated households and vulnerable populations, in-home counseling tailored to the characteristics of rural areas, expanded interventions focused on relationship recovery, and strengthened collaboration with relevant agencies."
Meanwhile, the suicide rate in Jincheon-gun recorded the highest figure in the past five years, and according to data released by Statistics Korea on September 30, the number of suicide deaths in Jincheon-gun in 2024 is expected to reach 40, more than doubling from 19 the previous year.
