충남 서산시가 신청사 일대를 대상으로 전선 지중화 사업을 본격 추진한다. 시는 한국전력공사가 주관한 지중화 공모사업에 11년 만에 선정되며 사업 추진의 발판을 마련했다고 13일 밝혔다.
이번 사업은 문화로부터 안견로에 이르는 약 500m 구간의 전선을 지하로 매설하는 내용으로, 총사업비 30억 원이 투입된다. 이 중 서산시와 한국전력공사가 각각 15억 원씩을 부담하며, 2026년 11월 착공해 2028년 12월 준공을 목표로 한다.
이를 위해 서산시는 오는 9월 추가경정예산을 통해 예산을 확보한 뒤, 10월 중 한국전력공사와 업무협약을 체결할 예정이다. 이어 11월 실시설계 용역에 착수해 사업 추진 절차를 본격화한다.
서산시는 이번 공모 선정 배경으로 한국전력공사와의 지속적인 협력을 꼽았다. 지난해 1월부터 협의를 시작해 4월에는 충남본부와 세부계획을 논의했고, 6월 전력연구원에서 열린 공모사업 설명회 참여를 통해 사업 구체화를 마쳤다. 이후 7월 공모를 신청해 올해 최종 선정됐다.
이완섭 서산시장은 “신청사 건립과 맞물린 전선 지중화로 쾌적하고 안전한 도시 이미지를 조성하겠다”며 “공사 과정에서 시민 불편을 최소화하면서 내실 있는 추진이 이루어지도록 하겠다”고 밝혔다.
한편, 서산시는 2030년 신청사 개청을 목표로 기본 및 실시설계 용역을 진행 중이다. 신청사는 읍내동 517번지 일원에 연면적 3만8,414㎡ 규모로 건립되며, 지하 1층에서 지상 7층까지 시청사, 민원실, 시의회 청사뿐 아니라 직장어린이집과 주민 편의시설도 함께 조성될 예정이다.
