충남 천안시가 인공지능(AI) 기술을 행정과 산업 전반에 접목하는 ‘인공지능 전환(AX, AI Transformation)’ 사업을 본격 추진한다.
이를 위해 천안시는 20일, 정부의 AI 국가전략에 발맞춰 ‘포용적이고 역동적인 미래 혁신 스마트 거점도시’ 조성을 목표로 한 지역 특화사업을 본격화한다고 밝혔다.
올해 천안시는 연말까지 ‘거점형 스마트도시 조성사업’을 추진하고, M-AX 클러스터와 강소형 데이터센터 구축 등 정부 국책사업에도 선제 대응할 계획이다.
거점형 스마트도시는 기업 지원과 공간 구조를 융합한 형태로, 국토교통부의 ‘스마트도시 인증’ 획득도 추진된다.
특히 지난해 선정된 ‘AX 실증산단 구축사업’과 연계해 정부가 추진 중인 권역별 M-AX(제조 AI 전환) 클러스터 정책에 적극 발맞춘다.
산업통상자원부가 스마트그린산단으로 지정한 제2·3·4 일반산업단지를 중심으로 디스플레이 분야 선도기업을 육성하고, AI 인프라 구축과 실증 지원을 통해 제조 분야의 AI 혁신 성공 사례를 발굴할 예정이다.
또한 국토교통부의 ‘K-AI 시범도시’ 공모에도 참여해 천안형 AI 도시 모델을 제시한다. 그동안 추진해온 스마트도시 사업에서 축적된 데이터와 기술을 활용해 도시 운영의 자동화·효율화를 실현하겠다는 구상이다.
한편, 정부의 ‘AI 고속도로’ 구축 전략에 발맞춰 불당동 R&D 집적지구 내에 ‘중부권 AI 데이터센터’ 설립도 추진된다. 이를 통해 지역 내 AI 인프라를 강화하고, 기업과 연구기관의 기술 활용 기반을 넓힌다는 방침이다.
천안시는 시민이 체감할 수 있는 AI 서비스 확산에도 속도를 낸다. ‘온디바이스 AI’를 공공분야에 도입해 재난 대응과 범죄 예방 효율성을 높이고, AI 전문 인재 양성을 위한 교육 인프라 확대 및 시민 맞춤형 교육 프로그램도 운영할 계획이다.
천안시 관계자는 “AI 기술이 행정, 산업, 시민 생활 전반의 효율성을 높이는 핵심 인프라가 될 것”이라며 “천안을 충청권 AI 산업의 중심도시로 육성하겠다”고 말했다.
