남당항 새조개 가격 인상…어획량 감소로 불가피한 조치

겨울철 대표 별미로 꼽히는 새조개가 수요 폭증과 어획량 감소로 인해 가격이 크게 오르면서 충남 홍성군 남당항 어민들과 상인들의 시름이 깊어지고 있다.

홍성군은 올해 남당항에서 출하된 새조개가 작년에 비해 알이 굵고 품질이 우수하다는 평가를 받았지만, 전국적인 수요 급증으로 공급물량이 뒷받침되지 못하면서 도매 및 소비자가격이 모두 상승했다고 3일 밝혔다.

남당항새조개 축제추진위원회에 따르면, 지난 17일 개막식 이후 정찰제를 유지하며 새조개 가격을 1kg(껍질 제외) 기준 포장 9만 원, 식당 10만 원으로 책정해 판매해왔으나, 2월 들어 손익분기점을 넘어서면서 포장은 12만 원, 식당은 13만 원으로 각각 조정했다.

김용태 추진위원장은 “새조개 자원 보호와 인건비·유통비 급등, 기후 변화에 따른 어획 여건 악화로 인해 불가피하게 가격을 인상하게 됐다”며 “가격 부담에도 불구하고 소비자들이 믿고 찾을 수 있는 투명한 거래 환경을 유지하기 위해 상점 간 가격을 통일했다”고 설명했다.
