이번 인상은 외교부 방침에 따른 것으로, 2021년 차세대 전자여권 도입 이후 제조·발급 원가가 크게 상승했으나 여권 발급 수수료는 지난 20년간 동결되어 왔다. 이에 외교부는 예산상의 어려움을 고려해 국민 부담을 최소화하는 수준에서 수수료를 인상하기로 결정했다.
여권 신청은 옥천군청 1층 종합민원과 2번 창구에서 가능하며, 신청인은 본인이 직접 방문하여 신청하여야 한다. 18세 미만 미성년자의 경우 법정 대리인의 동의가 필요하여 법정대리인 중 1인이 직접 방문하여 신청하여야 한다.
신청 시 준비물은 신분증, 최근 6개월 이내 촬영한 여권 사진 1매, 유효기간이 남아있는 기존 여권, 수수료를 지참하면 된다.
여권 발급 소요기간은 통상 근무일 기준 7~10일 정도이며, 발급 완료 시 카카오톡 알림 서비스를 통해 수령 안내를 받을 수 있다.
