【충북 브레이크뉴스】임창용 기자=제천시 보건소가 치과 진료 기회가 상대적으로 부족한 봉양초등학교와 청암학교 학생을 대상으로 ‘학교 구강보건실’을 운영한다.
학교 구강보건실 사업은 매 학기 중 공중보건치과의사와 치과위생사가 치과유니트 장비 등이 갖춰져 있는 학교를 방문해 학생들에게 구강 관리 서비스를 제공하는 사업이다.
공중보건 치과의사와 치과위생사가 3월부터 올해 말까지 방학 기간을 제외하고 주 2회 학교에 방문해 학생들의 치아 상태에 따라 ▲구강검진 및 교육 ▲불소도포 ▲충치 치료 ▲치석 제거 ▲치아 홈 메우기 등 초기 충치 치료와 충치 예방 처치를 시행한다.
특히 치아 홈 메우기는 우식발생 가능성이 높은 영구치의 어금니(제1,2대구치) 씹는 면의 홈을 약재로 메워 음식물이 끼거나 세균막이 생기지 않도록 방지하는 예방치료이다.
지난해 구강보건실은 학교당 주 1회씩 총 42회 운영돼 174명을 대상으로 연간 2~3회의 교육을 실시하고, 치아 홈 메우기 등 750건의 예방 진료를 완료했다.
보건소 관계자는 “만 6세 ~ 만 12세 아동기는 구강 관리 습관 형성과 영구 치열이 완성되는 매우 중요한 시기”라며, “취약지역 학교 구강보건실의 지속적인 운영을 통해 구강보건에 대한 올바른 지식을 전달하고, 학생들이 건강한 치아를 유지할 수 있도록 지속적으로 노력하겠다”라고 말했다.
