이날 취임식에는 김장호 구미시장, 박교상 구미시의회 의장을 비롯해 경북도 및 구미시 의원, 정태주 국가중심 국공립대학교 총장협의회장(국립경국대 총장), 허영우 경북대 총장, 김찬기 한경국립대 총장, 최호성 경운대 부총장, 최재윤 한국폴리텍대학 구미캠퍼스 학장 등 대학 및 지역 주요 인사들이 참석해 취임을 축하했다.
또한 김재훈 전 총장(2·3대), 최환 전 총장(4대), 우형식 전 총장(5대), 김영식 전 총장(6대·국가과학기술연구회 이사장), 곽호상 전 총장(8대) 등 역대 총장과 곽현근 발전후원회장, 장세광 총동창회장, 장진호 대학평의원회 의장, 박병훈 한국산업단지공단 경북지역본부장, 박대현 경북RISE센터장 등 지역 인사들도 참석했다. 이철우 경북도지사는 영상 축전을 보내 축하했으며, 구자근·강명구 국회의원도 축전을 통해 대학 발전을 기원했다.
김상호 총장은 취임사를 통해 국립금오공대를 디지털과 인공지능(AI) 기술을 기반으로 한 과학기술 중심 특성화 대학으로 발전시키고, 대경권 국립대학 시스템의 중심축으로서 지역 성장을 이끄는 앵커 기관으로 자리매김하겠다는 비전을 제시했다.
이를 위해 ‘DISCOVER Our New DNA’라는 실행 전략 아래 △디지털·AI 기술을 혁신 동력으로 하는 ‘혁신의 DNA’ △대학 간 협력을 통한 상생 발전 모델 구축을 위한 ‘연대와 통합의 DNA’ △지·산·학 협력 강화를 위한 ‘개방의 DNA’ △공감과 통합의 리더십을 기반으로 한 ‘소통의 DNA’ 등을 추진하겠다고 밝혔다.
김 총장은 “국립금오공과대학교는 대한민국 산업 발전의 중심에서 공학 인재를 양성하며 지난 50년 동안 국가와 함께 성장해 온 자랑스러운 역사를 지니고 있다”며 “이제 ‘하나 됨’과 ‘새로움’을 바탕으로 혁신과 연대, 통합과 개방, 소통의 DNA를 발굴해 구성원의 집단지성과 혁신 역량을 모아 대학의 새로운 성장 동력을 만들어가겠다”고 말했다.
서울 출신인 김 총장은 서라벌고와 성균관대학교 산업공학과를 졸업했으며, 포항공과대학교에서 산업공학 석·박사 학위를 취득했다. 1996년 국립금오공대에 부임한 이후 취업지원본부장, BK21+사업단장, 대학평의원회 의장(교수회장) 등을 역임했다. 또한 LG전자 디스플레이연구소 자문교수, 전국국공립대학교수회연합회 상임회장, 대한인간공학회 회장 등 다양한 대외 활동을 펼쳐왔다.
국립금오공과대학교 제9대 김상호 총장의 임기는 2026년 1월 30일부터 2030년 1월 29일까지 4년이다.

Kumoh National Institute of Technology (KIT) held its inauguration ceremony for its 9th President Kim Sang-ho at 2:00 PM on the 11th in the main auditorium of the university's main building.

In his inaugural address, President Kim Sang-ho outlined his vision for Kumoh National Institute of Technology (KIT) to develop into a science and technology-focused university based on digital and artificial intelligence (AI) technologies. He also outlined his vision for the university to become a central pillar of the national university system in the Greater-Gyeonggi region, positioning it as an anchor institution driving regional growth.
To this end, under the implementation strategy of "DISCOVER Our New DNA," the university announced its intention to pursue the following: 1) "DNA of Innovation," which leverages digital and AI technologies as the driving force for innovation; 2) "DNA of Solidarity and Integration," which aims to establish a model of mutually beneficial development through inter-university collaboration; 3) "DNA of Openness," which aims to strengthen collaboration among academia, industry, and academia; and 4) "DNA of Communication," which fosters empathy and integrated leadership.
President Kim stated, "Kumoh National Institute of Technology has a proud history of fostering engineering talent at the center of Korea's industrial development and growing alongside the nation for the past 50 years. Now, based on the principles of 'unity' and 'newness,' we will discover the DNA of innovation, solidarity, integration, openness, and communication. By harnessing the collective intelligence and innovative capabilities of our members, we will create a new growth engine for the university."
A native of Seoul, President Kim graduated from Seorabeol High School and Sungkyunkwan University's Department of Industrial Engineering. He also earned his master's and doctorate degrees in industrial engineering from Pohang University of Science and Technology. Since joining Kumoh National Institute of Technology in 1996, he has served in various capacities, including as Director of the Career Support Center, Director of the BK21+ Project, and Chairman of the University Council (Faculty Council). He has also served as an advisory professor at the LG Electronics Display Research Institute, Standing Chairman of the Korean Association of Professors at National and Public Universities, and President of the Ergonomics Society of Korea.
Kim Sang-ho, the 9th President of Kumoh National Institute of Technology, will serve a four-year term, from January 30, 2026, to January 29, 2030.
