주정봉 대전 서구청장 예비후보가 인공지능(AI)과 소프트웨어(SW)를 기반으로 한 교육 혁신을 통해 서구를 ‘대한민국 교육의 중심지’로 탈바꿈시키겠다는 포부를 밝혔다.
주 예비후보는 10일 자신의 정책 시리즈인 <서구를 바꾸는 100가지 약속> 제5편을 공개하고, 대덕특구의 인프라를 활용한 미래형 교육 도시 조성 등 7대 교육 핵심 공약을 발표했다.
가장 눈에 띄는 공약은 ‘AI·SW 교육 특화지구’ 조성이다. 대덕특구의 연구 인프라와 대학 전문가 그룹을 학교 교육과 연계해, 학생들이 현장 중심의 첨단 기술을 직접 체험하고 배울 수 있는 생태계를 구축한다는 구상이다.

평생교육 분야에서는 주민 5명 이상이 모이면 강사가 직접 찾아가는 ‘평생학습 배달강좌제’를 내실화하고, 어르신들을 위한 디지털 배움터 운영과 학교 급식 내 저탄소·로컬푸드 식단 확대 등 세대를 아우르는 교육 지원책을 제시했다.
25년간 교육 현장에서 활동해온 주 예비후보는 “현장에서 아이들을 가르치며 느낀 점은 지식 전달만큼이나 ‘꿈꿀 수 있는 환경’이 중요하다는 것”이라며 “서구를 교육 때문에 떠나는 곳이 아닌, 교육을 위해 일부러 찾아오는 품격 있는 교육 도시로 반드시 만들겠다”고 강조했다.
