진동규 대전시교육감 예비후보가 유성구 죽동지구의 해묵은 과제인 중학교 신설 문제를 정면으로 돌파하겠다고 선언했다.
진 예비후보는 13일 오전 대전시의회 기자실에서 기자회견을 열고, 죽동 1·2지구를 통합한 중학교를 설립해 지역 주민들의 10년 숙원 사업을 임기 내 반드시 매듭짓겠다는 의지를 표명했다.
현재 죽동 1지구는 4,000세대에 달하는 대규모 주거지임에도 불구하고 관내 중학교가 부재한 상태다. 이로 인해 인근 노은·장대·신성·어은중학교로 원거리 통학을 해야 하는 약 400명의 학생들은 3㎞ 이상의 이동 거리와 안전사고의 위험을 감수하고 있다.

이에 대해 진 예비후보는 2033년 준공 예정인 죽동 2지구(약 6,000세대)를 결합하면 900명 이상의 학생 수요를 확보할 수 있어, 교육부의 중앙투자심사 기준을 무리 없이 통과할 수 있다는 논리를 제시했다.
