국민의힘 충남도당 공천관리위원회(이하 공관위)가 제9회 전국동시지방선거를 대비해 기초의원 후보자 97명을 최종 확정했다.
이번 공천은 경선을 거친 34개 선거구 64명과 정수 이내 지역으로 분류된 15개 선거구 33명을 대상으로 진행됐다.
경선 과정은 지난 4월 9일 후보자 등록과 10일 선거인단 명부 교부를 거쳐 본격화됐다.
당초 36개 선거구 118명이 경선 후보로 나섰으나, 천안시 마·아산시 라 선거구는 후보자 1인만 등록해 경선 없이 후보가 확정됐으며, 공주시 나 선거구는 경선 등록을 포기한 이건용 후보를 제외한 나머지 후보자들로 경선을 치렀다.
경선은 책임당원 선거인단 투표 100% 방식으로 실시됐다. 4월 13일 한국전자투표를 통한 온라인 투표와 14일 ARS 투표가 진행됐으며, 최종 결과는 선거인단 득표율, 가산점, 공직후보자 기초자격평가(PPAT) 점수를 합산하여 산출했다.
경선을 통해 후보가 확정된 지역은 천안(다·라·사·자·차·카), 공주(가·나·다), 보령(가·나·다·라), 아산(가·나·다·마·바), 금산(가), 논산(가), 계룡(가·나), 당진(가·라), 부여(다), 서천(가·나), 홍성(가·라), 예산(가·다·라) 선거구와 공주·서산 비례대표다.

또한 공관위는 청년 정치 참여 확대를 위해 청년 우선추천제를 적용, 공주 나 선거구에 오재원, 예산 가 선거구에 황두현 후보를 각각 확정했다.
