학생 수 감소로 위기를 겪던 대전 서구 월평동 성천초등학교 부지가 지역을 대표하는 교육·문화·복지 거점으로 거듭난다.
대전시의회 교육위원회 소속 이한영 의원(서구6, 국민의힘)은 성천초등학교가 교육부 주관 ‘2026년 학교복합시설 1차 공모사업’에 최종 선정됐다고 밝혔다.
이는 이 의원이 지난 3년간 지역구 현안 해결을 위해 공을 들여온 핵심 사업으로, 국비 104억 원을 포함해 총 147억 7,900만 원 규모의 예산이 투입될 예정이다.
성천초는 그동안 학령인구 감소에 따른 학교 통합 논의가 진행되면서 부지 활용 방안에 대한 지역 사회의 관심이 높았던 곳이다.
이 의원은 부지 방치 우려를 선제적으로 파악하고, 이곳을 학생과 주민이 상생할 수 있는 생활 밀착형 SOC(사회간접자본) 공간으로 탈바꿈시키기 위해 교육부, 대전시, 교육청 등 관계기관과 긴밀한 협의를 지속해 왔다.
새롭게 조성될 학교복합시설에는 어린이 및 청소년 전용 도서관 ,늘봄학교 연계 돌봄교실 ,주민 커뮤니티센터 ,다목적 체육관 ,야외 책놀이터 ,주차장 등이 들어설 계획이다. 단순한 교육 시설을 넘어 지역 공동체의 활력을 불어넣는 복합 문화 공간으로서의 역할을 수행하게 된다.
이번 공모 선정은 이 의원이 직접 현장을 발로 뛰며 주민 의견을 수렴하고, 사업의 당위성과 타당성을 확보하기 위해 노력한 결실이라는 평가가 지배적이다.
