중·남구는 현재 대구 지역에서 방과 후 수업이 가장 활성화되지 못한 지역으로 꼽히고 있다.
특히 남구의 경우 서구와 더불어 교육환경이 대구 안에서 가장 미흡하며 취약한 환경과 함께 교육 투입요인마저 미흡해 다른 지역과의 교육격차가 심화되고 있는 것으로 나타났다.
이에 도 예비후보는 초등학교 방과 후 수업에 ‘한자+영어’, ‘코딩+수학’, ‘셰익스피어 연극 공연’과 같은 융합 강좌를 개설하여 초등교육 수준을 전국 최고로 끌어올리겠다는 포부를 밝혔다.
아울러 중·고교에서 다양한 영어 잡지 스터디를 권장하고 공공도서관을 최대한 활용하여 2년 내에 우수학교 진학률 1위 지역의 명예를 되찾아 오겠다고 선언했다.
나아가 남산동 일대에 명품학원가를 육성하여 공교육과 사교육 양면에서 최고 수준의 교육이 이루어지도록 하겠다는 계획을 밝혔다.
