전국시도교육감협의회(회장 최교진, 이하 협의회)가 ‘지방교육재정 안정화 특별입장문’을 채택했다.
협의회는 지난 20일 정부세종컨벤션센터에서 제82회 총회를 개최한 가운데 우리나라의 미래를 책임질 학생들의 올곧은 성장을 위한 지방교육재정 안정화 특별입장문’을 채택했다고 밝혔다.

이날 협의회는 입장문을 통해 유초중등 교육예산을 줄여야 한다는 일부 주장에 우려를 표했다.
그러면서 ＂지방교육재정교부금은 학생수가 아닌 늘어난 학급수와 학교수 그리고 학생의 학습권 보장과 미래교육을 위한 교육환경조성 등을 종합적으로 고려하면 오히려 늘려야 한다＂고 주장했다.
협의회는 “주요 선진국가들은 코로나19를 계기로 다가온 미래를 위해 학교교육에 투자를 확대하고 있다.”면서 “우리도 지방교육재정을 안정적으로 확보하여 미래교육에 대한 투자를 통해 국가의 미래전략을 수립해야 할 때.”라고 거듭 강조했다.
아울러 “우리나라의 미래를 책임질 학생들의 올곧은 성장을 위해서도 지방교육재정교부금은 안정적으로 확보되어야 한다”면서 “지방교육재정교부금에 대한 어떤 논의라도 반드시 전국의 시도교육감들과 협의를 통해 진행되어야 한다”고 덧붙였다.
