스님이 석 조각 예술 세계에 뛰어든 것은 15세 때 였다고 한다. 그 후 48여 년 간 한 길을 걸었다. 그래서인지 그의 작품을 감상하고 칭찬하는 이들이 많다.

조각원의 자료에 따르면, 상도선원 선원장 미산 스님은 “태황 스님은 선조들의 종교 문화적 예술 혼을 전승하여 지극한 신심과 원력으로 조성과 대탑을 비롯한 다양한 석(石) 조각(彫刻)을 조성하여 많은 이들을 감화 시키고 있다”고 피력했다. 이계진 전 의원은 “13여년의 세월 동안 조성하였다는 17m 높이의 거대한 석탑은 마치 다보탑이 세월 따라 자라서 현신한 것 같은 착각이 들어 그 앞에 서면 절로 합장을 하게 될 것이다. 장엄하고도 아름답다”고 칭송했다. 김정옥 예술원 회원은 “평생을 불교 조각에 정진해 온 태황 스님은 이제 창조적 만남의 열매를 거둬들일 결실의 계절에 있다”고 강조했다.
태황 스님, 자신은 “48년 간 돌과 함께 살았다. 그리고 그 돌 속에서 부처님을 만났다. 스승의 돌 속에서 부처님의 염화미소를 보았다”고 회고 했다.
