박종섭 무형문화재 거창전수교육관장이 전국에서 최고령인 82세의 나이로 박사학위를 수여 받아 화제가 되고 있다.
박종섭 관장은 지난 16일 계명대학교 대학원 학위수여식에서 국문학 박사학위를 취득했다. 이는 그가 1976년 계명대학교 국어국문과 수료 후, 1984년 한문학과 학사학위, 1986년 동대학원 국문학과 문학석사 학위 취득, 1999년 동대학원 국문학과 박사과정을 수료한 후 23년 만으로 그는 거창지역 구비문학 연구논문으로 박사학위를 취득하게 됐다.

박 관장의 박사학위 논문인 ‘거창지역 구비문학 연구’는 그동안 사학계에서 논란의 중심이 되었던 백제 무왕의 왕비가 신라의 선화공주라는 찬반 논란에 대하여, 선화공주가 백제로 넘어가기 위하여 거창의 거열산성을 넘던 중 백제 수비군에게 붙잡혀 간첩으로 오인되어 처형되었는데 그녀가 뿌리는 한의 눈물이 거창 취우령에서 내리는 비라는 전설을 발표하여 무왕의 왕비가 선화공주가 아니라는 주장에 힘을 보태고 있어 학계의 큰 관심을 모으고 있다.
