2일 이 총괄선대위원장은 봉덕신시장에서 열린 대구 중구남구 국회의원 보궐선거에 나선 백수범 후보 지지유세에 나서 “백 후보는 지난 대선 경선에서 불리한 후보였던 저를 도왔다”면서 “잘 나가는 후보를 지지하는 건 누구나 할 수 있지만 어려운 후보를 지지한다는 건 그만큼 큰 신념이 필요하고 용기가 필요하다. 백수범 후보는 그런 신념과 용기와 의리를 가진 사람”이라고 설명했다.
이어 “백수범 후보는 대구 고향을 위한 꿈으로 대법원을 대구로 옮기도록 해보겠다는 공약을 냈다”며 “이 공약은 아주 야심찬 제안으로 저도 충분히 의미있는 제안이라고 판단하며 민주당 동지들과 함께 상의해서 가장 좋은 해법을 찾아내겠다”고 강조했다.
그러면서 이 총괄선대위원장은 “백수범 후보를 여러분께서 국회로 보내주시면, 제 힘이 닿는 데까지 함께 활동하면서 백수범 후보가 쑥쑥 거물로 커가는데 제가 도울 수 있는 모든 것을 돕겠다.”고 말했다.
그는 특히 백수범 후보가 이제 40대 중반의 젊은 후보라는 점을 강조하며 “지금부터 재선, 3선 하면 전국적 인물이 될 만한 충분한 소양을 갖고 있는 사람이기 때문에 김부겸 총리에 이은 중요한 인물로 대구 시민 여러분이 키워달라.”고 지지를 호소했다.

이날 백수범 후보와 이 총괄선대위원장은 차량 유세를 마친 뒤, 봉덕시장 골목을 다니면서 상인과 주민들을 만나 소통하는 시간을 가졌다.
백수범 후보는 “지역 국회의원들이 전부 한 정당에서 독점하는 우리 대구의 정치구도를 이제는 구민 여러분이 타파해 주시기 바란다.”고 말했다.
