Artist Insang Moon, nude drawing exhibition “The fruit of my weekly nude drawing for over 30 years”

“Learn the formative sense of ink, line, color, and blank space through the beautiful human body, and deepen the quest for spiritual expression”

-Publisher Il-suk Moon

An exhibition of nude drawings by artist Insang Moon (professor of Oriental Painting Department, Chugye University of Art University) will be held from June 22 to 27 at the Insa Art Center at 41-1 Insadong-gil, Jongno-gu, Seoul. The theme of the exhibition is “Lines, Lines, Seas, and Flows”.

Artist Insang Moon introduces, “I have been doing nude drawings every week for over 30 years, learning the formative sense of ink, lines, colors, and blank spaces through the beautiful human body, and deepening my quest for spiritual expression.”

In the autobiography of this exhibition, artist Insang Moon said, “Nude ink drawing is my story that captures the traces of life. It may be a repeated daily life, but it always opens your eyes to something new and novel. Drawings are characterized by one-stroke writing and free strokes. The shape of the subject is expressed quickly with a brush stroke as fast as a croquis, and the spiritual world is put into it. I do not try to express the object exactly like it. This is because true art lies in the expression of the inner world rather than the outer appearance. Therefore, ink nude drawing expresses the world that exists and is felt but not seen, and the sound of the heart that is heard but not seen. Of course, this is never easy. Just as the wild grasses growing in the field move silently, and the wind blows, but there is no trace of the wind. For me, drawing is the wind. Catching up with the wind moves with the brush strokes, sometimes gently and sometimes rough.” He said, “As art of all forms is compressed into one stroke, good drawing can only be achieved when one is aware of the principle of every stroke of the formative spirit. Seeing emphasized in the Seokdohwa Theory can be thought of as the following three stages. First, it is the stage of poetry. This is a physical level, an objective level of capturing a shape with a camera lens. Second, it is the stage of observation. This is an academic level, which is a logical level to broaden field trips and experiences. Third, it is the stage of coffin (觀). This is the subjective and philosophical level of an idea or contemplation. The artist must go into the world of subjective creation. In the stage of poetry (視), accurate drawing is done, and in the stage of vision (見), more refined brushstrokes are acquired, and from that moment on, the position is freer than that of a criminal (former), and when it reaches the stage of observation (觀), Only then will it be sublimated into a work of art with pure emotions and emotions.”

Essayist Baek Yong said about this exhibition, “Now I am looking at a strange nude painting in which two red cherry blossoms are embedded in a thick, thin line in black and white. Sometimes it writhes and twists, and while flowing, it suddenly encounters a large rock, and feels the warmth of a living creature like a splashing water drop. As if watching the photographer's waiting not to miss the moment of Charla, or seeing the quickness of a hitter who captures the pitcher's fastball momentarily to get a hit, my eyes follow the flow of living energy. It is certainly difficult to understand the art of the moment. It's a pity that even with decades-old luxury wines, the depth of the mind is different depending on age, so it's just a pity that we can't properly taste the taste." Wasn't this also the case with angler Taegong Kang, who generously gave out baits to catch big fish and saved the pyramids with a smile? Even in her early 40s, Mun showed off these nude paintings. And at the age of a middle-aged man in his 60s, which transcends 20 years of time and space, it is a nude painting full of maturity.”
