(브레이크뉴스인천 문광수 기자) 인천시가 2022년 인천시립박물관의 세 번째 갤러리전시 ‘매일매일 인천 기록 : 고일 미공개 아카이브’전을 8월 30일부터 11월 13일까지 개최한다.
인천을 대표하는 1세대 향토사학자이자 언론인 그리고 ‘인천석금’의 저자 고일 선생(본명 고희선, 1903~1975)이 남긴 육필 원고 등을 처음으로 공개하는 자리다.
고일 선생은 인천 근현대사의 한복판에서 활약한 언론인, 향토사학자일 뿐만 아니라 항일운동, 청년운동, 사회운동, 문화・예술운동 등 다양한 분야에서 오피니언리더로 그 역할을 담당한 인물이다.
특히, 개인이 쓴 최초의 인천 근현대사 책인 ‘인천석금(仁川昔今’의 저자로 잘 알려져 있다.
그는 ‘인천석금’을 비롯한 각종 지면을 통해 자신이 기억하는 인천을 생생히 그려낸 바 있는데 인천에 대한 각별한 사랑과 관심으로, 비범한 기억력과 한결같은 글쓰기로 인천을 기억하고 기록하기를 결코 멈추지 않았다.
인천시립박물관은 개인의 기억과 기록이 점차 중요한 역사가 되고 있는 지금 시점에서 고일 선생이 남긴 위대한 유산 가운데 그가 꼼꼼히 모은 기억과 기록, 즉 아카이브에 새롭게 주목했다.
그는 인천과 인천 사람을 만들어낸 당대의 사건과 장소, 인물들을 기억, 기록, 보관하는데 노력을 아끼지 않았는데 이것이 오늘날 신(新)자료로 발굴됐기 때문이다.
시립박물관은 고일 선생과 관련된 미공개 아카이브를 최초로 공개해 인천 근현대 자료를 새롭게 소개하고, 인천 역사・문화의 기록 유산과 그 가치를 재조명하고자 전시를 기획했다.
이번 전시는 ‘기억을 기록하다’, ‘기록을 기억하다’두 가지 주제로 구성해 인천에 대한 고일 선생의 기억과 기록을 소개하고 그 의미를 되짚어 볼 예정이다.
이번 기획전에서는 특히 인천시사 원고 등 시사편찬 관련 자료 및 경기언론 25년 회고를 비롯한 인천 향토사 관련 육필 원고가 최초로 선보인다.
또한, 고일 선생이 인천시사편찬위원회 초대 상임위원으로서 구상했지만 72세의 일기로 타계하면서 그 전모를 알 수 없게 된 인천 상고사, 인물사 내용의 실마리를 찾게 하는 인천 상고사・중고사 원고, 인천 인물 12명에 대한 기록 등도 전시된다.
본인이 집필한 신문 기사 스크랩 등 그가 수집, 소장한 각종 기록물을 통해 아카이브의 소중함도 느껴볼 수 있다. 작은 코너 ‘고희선을 말하다’에서는 고일 선생이 남긴 이력서, 비망록 등 개인적 자료를 통해 선생 삶의 궤적을 살필 수 있다.
유동현 인천광역시립박물관장은 “고일 선생의 친필 원고 및 이력서, 신문 스크랩 등 텍스트 위주의 아카이브 자료를 보고, 읽고, 듣는 시청각적 전시회로 치환해 관람객들이 보다 쉽게 이해할 수 있도록 준비했다”며 “인천 역사의 어제와 오늘을 고일 선생과 관련 자료의 수집을 통해 관람객과 더불어 최초로 볼 수 있게 협조를 아끼지 않은 개인 소장가분들께 감사드리며, 이번 전시가 일상의 기록과 기억, 보관에 대해 함께 이야기하고 아카이브의 특별한 힘을 경험하는 시간이 되길 바란다”고 말했다.
